Mercy Corps is seeking to contract consultant firms and/or service providers (private institutions, non-governmental organizations, Technical Schools/Institutions, and specialized firms, or Individual trainers1 ) to provide a Beekeeping skills course .
Objective of the Call: Through this activity, 3amaly intends to improve employability for
individuals.
Target participants: 10 participants
Participants’ criteria:
Nationality: Lebanese and Syrian and Palastenian
Age: 18-34 years old
Gender: Women, Men
Educational Level: Must be a drop-out for more than 6 months and interested in the beekeeping
domain ( Beekeepers, Agriculture BT graduates)
Employment Status: Unemployed or daily worker
Course Details:
● Course duration: between 90-100 hour
● Duration of the project: October 2022 – January 2023
Learning Objectives and Training Topics
The Learning objectives of the Beekeeping course are:
Theoretical and Practical skills:
1. Course overview and description ( economic benefits, volume of production in the world
and in Lebanon, role of bees in agriculture)
2. Introduction to beekeeping- composition of beehive
3. The colony and its organization: queens, drones, workers, bee breeds, types and
characteristics.
4. Management of beehives including proper management, monitoring, proper nutrition,
selection of site ( optimal location selection , regular hive checkup)
5. Beehive products and beekeeping equipments
6. Operation and maintenance of equipment and tools
7. Beehives diseases, and pests affecting bees and treatments methods
1 Individual consultants can apply if they have links with the local community businesses and can prove their ability
to complete the employment percentage required.
8. Feeding honey bees ( with practical application)
9. Beehive expansion techniques
10. Raising queens, artificial and natural swarming
11. Honey harvesting technique and post harvesting techniques ( with practical application)
12. Beehive portfolio of products
13. New beekeeping technologies, by-products and artificial insemination
14. Honey testing ( with practical application)
15. Development of market linkages
16. Feasibility of beekeeping activity / investment
Graduation tool kit :
Beekeeper toolbox :
Two Beehives, frames and foundation, Smoker, Hive tool, Feeders, Bee brush, Veil and
gloves, boots, in addition to any tools that can be beneficial .
● The graduation kits to be distributed for the graduates as following :
N.B. Graduates: participants who attended minimum 70% of the training and passed the
post test.
Specs and details ( EU , Turkish , or local origin )
The specs and details to be mentioned in the proposal .
Practical implementation must be at least 80% of the total course hours including field visits
to Beekeeping sites.
Soft Skills
1. First aid and occupational safety in car mechanic:
a. How to take care and treat: cuts, burns,cuts, burns such heat and electrical burns,
shock, severe bleeding Amputation/severed body parts, fractures and
musculoskeletal injury.
b. How to keep the work safe, awareness of equipment/tools safety (including the
proper wearing of safety uniforms)
c. How to turn off a fire
2. Communication Skills:
a. Business Ethics
b. Customer Service -Access to market.
c. Teamwork, coordination and efficient communication (emotional intelligence and
professionalism in the workplace)
d. Customized CV ( Hard and soft copies for each graduate).
Employment Terms
The employment terms of the beekeeping course are:
● Service providers to provide detailed employment plans including a list of entities where
job placement is identified.
● The selected service provider should employ 20% of the course graduates.
● Employment could be categorized into part-time, full-time, seasonal or self-employment.
● Employment to be completed before the ending date of the mentioned duration ( January
2023)
● Service providers are encouraged to prepare for employment from the beginning of the
activity.
● Final payment will be cleared when MC team verifies (field spot checks, phone calls,
interviews with employers..) that all employment information provided is accurate and as
per the quality required
● Service provider to submit a service completion report along with proof of employment
after the employment is approved by MC 3amaly team.
Required Tasks from the Service Provider
The Service Provider, upon signing with Mercy Corps, is responsible for:
● Assign focal points who then attend the kick-off meeting and coordinate with Mercy Corps
3amaly team.
● Inform and clear all communication products with Mercy Corps and 3amaly communication
guidelines.
● Outreach of potential participants (as per the criteria set above) in coordination with Mercy Corps
3amaly program.
● All participants must be covered with insurance during the training period.
● Book the venue on his expenses on the outreach day with consideration that it should at
least fit 20 individuals in accordance with the physical distancing rules.
● Start the training in a period of 2-3 weeks maximum from the date the contract is signed.
● Mercy Corps 3amaly program will set interviews with the outreached participants and confirm the
final selection .
● Ensure safe and suitable insured location for both the practical and theoretical sections of the
course (must be detailed in the proposal).
● The location is to be pre-approved via an on-site methodology review done by the 3amaly team
despite the signature of the contract.
● Take COVID-19 precautionary measures physical distancing, face masks, hand and surface
sanitizers, gloves in addition to the separation of any tools that need to be used
● Ensure the safe transportation for participants (either through insured buses or paying
transportation fees).
● Daily transportation fees to be paid to participants must be equal to 5 $ ( fresh dollars)/ day/
participant. The service provider can choose to pick participants up.
● Develop and deliver the full curriculum based on the outlines presented above, and share the
training materials (student book, presentations, videos…) in hard and soft copies with Mercy
Corps.
● Deliver a set of technical/vocational skills, life/soft skills and practical skills within the scope of
the course (details mentioned above).
● Ensure that each course session below 4 hours contains a coffee break and each session above 4
hours has a minimum of one lunch break and one coffee break.
● Distribute toolkit and graduation kit related to the delivered course (as mentioned above).
● All concerned staff must participate in Mercy Corps training (Gender, Protections, etc. when
requested).
● Provide 3amaly Team with a detailed timeline and curriculum prior to course launching. (1 week
prior to course launch).
● Ensure that the participants are covered by work incident insurance.
Participants outreach must be area-specific and from different locations within the targeted area.
(2 - 4 weeks)
● Replace drop-out participants with new ones within the first three sessions in coordination with
the 3amaly team.
● Delivering of beekeeping training as per the timeframe October 2022-January 2023.
● As agreed with the 3amaly team, the service provider should distribute certificates for the
participants upon the completion of each course along with MC staff.
● Share a pre-posttest for each training to 3amaly team along with a scoring system and grading
reference for approval, prior to the start date of the course. (1 week prior to course launch).
● Provide 3amaly team (focal point) with the attendance sheet on a daily basis and transportation
sheet on a weekly basis during the session to cover any issues.
● Submit vocational course completion report after the course completion ( within 1 week from the
ending date of the course).
● Abide by MC safeguarding (annex 4) and protection guidelines (annex 5)
● Place the participants in jobs following the training period.
● Follow-up and present proof of employment upon completion of the course and employment of
any participant.( will be shared after the kick off meeting ).
Submittals
● Filled Vocational Course Proposal Form including a detailed profile and articulation of
the:
○ Schedule and curriculum of the course
○ Distribution of staff and trainers in addition to their CVs
○ Locations and employment links
● Profile of organization including list of consultancies and relevant past projects
conducted in the previous years . The applicant should have done Agricultural courses
before.
● A scan/copy of the organization’s registration at the Ministry of Finance or/and the
Ministry of Interior.
● Two references (include: client name, date of project, value of project, client contact
name, phone number and email).
● Past Experience with Mercy corps , if yes please include project name and contact
person.
