Nutrition Field Officer - Zahle

Action against Hunger is an international non-governmental, private, apolitical, non-religious and non-profit organization created in 1979. Its goal is to combat hunger and dangerous situations that threaten men, women, and children. Currently 500 expats and more than 5,000 employees are working for Action against Hunger in more than forty-six countries working in projects concerning four areas of focus: nutrition, health, food security and water and sanitation. 

In Lebanon, the Syrian crisis continues to generate political, social, and economic pressure due to the war in Lebanon and keeps more than 1.5 million refugees in a situation of increasing vulnerability. In this environment of political, economic and social uncertainty, our teams have maintained their high levels of humanitarian response and aid to Lebanon. Likewise, our interventions have been maintained in the Bekaa and northern areas, as well as in the south of the country, with a special focus on working in partnership or in consortium with other organizations and on institutional strengthening of the relationship with both donors. institutional, such as with local authorities and entities.  

WE WORK IN LEBANON AGAINST COVID-19 

  • Focusing on Syrian refugee population and Lebanese host communities,  
  • mobilization committees, 
  • isolation centers,  
  • municipalities and service providers. 
  • Conducting training for health personnel.  
  • Distributing disinfection and dignity kits.  
  • Installing latrines for people with specific needs in Aarsal.  
  • Carrying out channel cleaning to ensure proper drainage. Distributing water through tanker trucks. 

The Nutrition Field Officer will be responsible of:

Under the supervision of FSL & Nutrition supervisor, the Nutrition Field Officer is responsible for the daily technical planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring and reporting of the field activities, specifically:

  • To promote health and nutrition and related topics during the awareness sessions attended by cash-for-work participants; 
  • To ensure the project does no harm to the nutrition of women, infants and young children, particularly among cash-for-work participants;
  • To mainstream nutrition throughout the project as much as is possible and feasible. 

The position requires extensive field work and movement in the Beqaa

Objective 1: To ensure timely and quality implementation of nutrition activities: (35%)

  • To actively engage in the beneficiary selection process under the guidance of the FSL & Nutrition supervisor.
  • To provide support to the FSL & Nutrition supervisor for the design of the nutrition activities, including the curriculum and delivery of health, nutrition and related awareness sessions.
  • Support the design of breastfeeding/ nutrition-friendly modalities for women participating in cash-for-work activities, including raising awareness of men on their responsibility to support their partners and children in accessing optimal nutrition, feeding and care.
  • Support the development, procurement and appropriate use of visual and information materials during awareness sessions.
  • To carry out the awareness sessions and other related activities, including administering pre/ post-tests to participants as appropriate.
  • To conduct household visits, focus group discussions and key informant interviews upon the request of the FSL & Nutrition supervisor.
  • Ensure the quality of the awareness sessions, note ways of improving (trainings, field visits, meeting, etc…) with the standards of Action Against Hunger, and as per the agreed activity planned, BoQs and contracts.
  • Ensure the timely implementation of field works as per the predefined schedule.
  • Inform and document the anomalies and the challenges carried out during the
  • implementation phase of the program, offer solutions and adapt activities as required in coordination with your supervisor.
  • Support FSL field officers in conducting FSL activities.

Objective 2 - Stakeholder coordinators: (25%)

  • Field coordination with local authorities and ensuring continuous communication with beneficiaries and communities’ representatives as relevant
  • Support in building relationships between Action Against Hunger, local authorities, municipalities and communities.

Objective 3 - Data collection and reporting: (25%)

  • Provide regular verbal and written reports on work progress, challenges faced and appropriate actions to remedy them to the FSL & Nutrition supervisor.
  • Report possible problems or conflicts during the activities and identify actions to take to remedy them in coordination with the FSL & Nutrition supervisor.
  • Collect and summarise M&E data as required to support the management of the project and measure progress.

Objective 3 :  To support other humanitarian activities of ACF upon the request of the PM: (15%)

  • Support the emergency interventions of the organization as per the employee’s abilities.
  • Support any activity that helps reaching our humanitarian goals, as per the employee’s abilities.
  • Promote gender equality within the humanitarian and/or development work.

Objective 4: Security

  • Respect the security rules specified in the mission and base security plan, see to it that the team under his/her responsibility complies with the security plan and perform the security management tasks that can be assigned in its protocols.
  • Communicate to the security managers of the working location any security related information or noncompliance with the security plan.

Training/ Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public health, health promotion, nutrition or related field
  • Technical specific knowledge:
  • Health, hygiene or nutrition promotion, particularly promotion of breastfeeding and infant feeding or related experience. Knowledge of cash-based interventions is a plus.

Previous experience:

1-year experience working in humanitarian action or development promoting health or nutrition..

Languages:

Native Arabic and English compulsory

IT and specific systems:

Good skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and power point
