SVN2023 11 - Programme Assistant (Data & Research)

IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.

IOM’s Data and Research Unit aims to contribute to a broader and better understanding of migration patterns and processes at community, national and regional levels, as well as to inform community-based assistance, planning, by informing mission level policy and advocacy. IOM Lebanon assesses the needs of migrants in the country by implementing assessments and research studies to inform IOM’s and the international community’s response.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes and the direct supervision of the Data Operations Assistant, the candidate will perform the following activities:

1. In coordination with the Data and Research Unit colleagues, provide clerical support to the implementation, and monitoring of data collection and analysis activities in Lebanon, in line with the agreed upon work plan.

2.Provide general administrative support to the data and research unit in the implementation of project activities.

3. Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present data, information, and project files (financial documents, project documents, reports, and supporting documents) on specific topics, including those related to IOM partners.

4. Assist in the archive of all relevant administrative files.

5. Support administrative coordination for project implementation, involving liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process, and follow-up on administrative actions.

6. Support in data entry and draft status reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other forms of documentation.

7. Assist in the dissemination of project results and DTM products.

8.Support in the organization of meetings, workshops, and training sessions.

9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

The successful incumbent is expected to demonstrate the below:

Skills:

  • In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization; and,
  • Thorough knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

• School diploma with three years of relevant experience; or,
• Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with one year of relevant professional experience.
• Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
• Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
• Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
