Vacancy Notice – Coalition Building Expert

Assignment Description: Preparing and delivering a full-day training on coalition building for a cohort of 80 women engaged in the municipal elections.

DRI is looking for an expert in Coalition Building to train 80 women, wishing to run for the upcoming municipal elections, on how to build coalitions while preparing their campaign.

Background

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. It has been established in Lebanon since 2016. DRI promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions worldwide. Democratic discourse is the basis of our mission and vision. In our work, we facilitate discussion and exchange about democratic government and the need for a continuous discourse adhering to democratic rules.   

In the framework of its Lebanon project “A bottom-up reform agenda for Lebanon: Supporting youth, women, and civil society actors to expand civic space”, DRI is empowering civic actors, particularly women to participate in the political process and is engaging civic and public actors in political and legal reform to advance a good governance agenda. DRI has been training 2 cohorts of 40 women each (in 2021 and 2022) to empower them and increase their core skills to engage in the upcoming municipal elections.

In this context, DRI is looking for a Coalition Building Expert to train these women on how to build coalitions while preparing their campaigns, the strategies to use to form alliances with the parties involved in the municipal elections, and the tools to adopt to promote their campaigns and secure the support of political parties and community leaders.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of DRI’s Project Coordinator , the Expert will:  

• Develop interactive and detailed training modules, a training session plan, and all accompanying background materials (½ expert day);   
• Deliver a full-day training workshop that include open discussion sessions with the cohort of women, following an interactive, engaging approach, e.g., discussion activities, exercises, role plays, etc. (1 expert day);
• Prepare pre- and post-training test modules to be shared with the participants before and after the  session, once validated by DRI;  
• Once the workshop is completed, submit a report summarising the workshop outcomes and the pre-post tests results, and reflecting the women's increase in knowledge as per the template provided by DRI (½ expert day).  

 Your Skills & Experience  

• A university degree in  political studies, strategic management, development studies or relevant fields; 

• At least 7 years of relevant experience in coalition building, community mobilisation, civic engagement, political empowerment, etc.;
• Strong facilitation  skills in related topics using interactive methods;
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from different political backgrounds;
• Gender and cultural sensitivity;
• Working proficiency in Arabic and English.
