DRI is looking for a media expert to deliver one full-day training workshop to a group of 13 Young Media Makers to increase their skills in news/media reporting.

Background

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. It has been established in Lebanon since 2016. DRI promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions worldwide. Democratic discourse is the basis of our mission and vision. In our work, we facilitate discussion and exchange about democratic government and the need for a continuous discourse adhering to democratic rules.   

In the framework of its project entitled “Nafas Jdeed Season 2: Expanding the media discourse around elections in Lebanon”, DRI is working to expand the democratic space for a civil society-led debate on system change in Lebanon. Nafas Jdeed is an online political talk-show that introduces new faces to the media landscape and amplifies civil society voices, with the assistance of a group of 13 Young Media Makers (YMMs). In addition to the talk-show, the YMMs are supported through a capacity building programme to strengthen their capacities in the media sector.

To this end, DRI is recruiting an expert to deliver one full-day training workshop to this group in April 2023. The training objective is to enhance the skills of the trainees in news reporting to diverse media and social media platforms. The trainer will explain the main skills that a good reporter should have, the professional process of reporting on specific topics, and the characteristics of a well-written report.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of DRI’s Programme Manager, the Expert will:  

• Develop interactive and detailed training modules, a training session plan, and all accompanying background materials (½ expert day);   
• Deliver one full-day training workshop for 13 YMMs, following an interactive, engaging approach, e.g., discussion activities, exercises (one expert day);  
• Prepare pre- and post-training test modules to be shared with the participants before and after the training session, once validated by DRI; 
• Once the training is  completed, submit a training report summarizing the training outcomes and the pre-post tests results, and reflecting the trainees’ increase in knowledge as per the template provided by DRI (½ expert day).  

 Your Skills & Experience  

• A university degree in communication, journalism, social sciences or any other relevant fields; 

• At least 7 years of experience in the media field;
• A diverse track record in news and media reporting;
• Strong experience in delivering trainings on media reporting activities;
• Excellent verbal and writing communication skills;
• Gender and cultural sensitivity;
• Working proficiency in Arabic and English.
