MHPSS Supervisor - Qaa

Main responsibilities:

 

  • Lead the running of the MHPSS Activities at Al Qaa PHCC
  • Assist in the coordination of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities among different mental health staff and with PHC staff.
  • Coordinate with the case-management team (social worker, community mental health workers) on the implementation of all MH interventions and activities.
  • Oversee the sensitization and capacity building among PHC staff
  • Supervise the delivery of MHPSS activities in the community
  • Utilize the referral system between the community and PHCC as well as to secondary treatment level and other services, and participate to the good utilization of the Complaint Response Mechanism
  • Analyze, detect and work on the reduction of risk factors influencing the mental health status at community level.
  • Take an active role in all proposed research and/or MH assessments to be conducted in the field.
  • Ensure the data collection is being completed appropriately according to MdM and MOPH MHIS standards.
  • Contribute to the reporting on mental health activities.

 

 

Main responsibilities and activities of the MHPSS Supervisor can change according to the organization of the work and to the composition of the team.

 

 

Main activities:

 

Lead the running of the MHPSS activities at Al Qaa PHCC

  • Coordinate service delivery with the PHCC, the community and the partners.
  • Ensure safety and security concerns regarding access to the PHCC are reported and mitigated
  • Serve as a key liaison between the partners and represent the center at meetings with key actors.
  • Oversee the daily operational management of the MHPSS activities and coordinate with different departments within the organization (logistics, finance).

 

Management of the Case Manager and the Psychotherapist

  • Support, monitor, and follow up on the work of the case management team and the proper delivery of MH services in the PHCC
  • Plan annual leave for departmental staff to ensure there is sufficient logistical resource available at all times.
  • Carry out performance appraisals for all staff managed every year.
  • Assess the training needs of the staff managed and raise the identified needs with Deputy MH Coordinator.
  • Organize and facilitate internal meetings such as team meetings, technical meetings and case discussions

 

Support MdM MHPSS activities in the PHCC

  • Ensure that all MdM tools including necessary forms and questionnaires such as the clinical intake forms, progress notes etc. are properly completed and safely stored.  
  • Provide feedback on important issues that require supervisor feedback, decision making, and tailored interventions.
  • Assist the case-management team with referrals for high priority cases in need of other basic services.
  • Assist in the organization of MHPSS activities in the PHCC
  • Participate in the development of partnerships with local stakeholders necessary for the implementation of the MdM MHPSS activities.
  • Ensure the MHPSS staff are conducting the sessions while respecting the privacy of the patients.
  • Attend coordination meetings and represent MdM whenever it is required.
  • Participation in MdM internal meetings and individual meetings with the MH Coordinator.
  • Ensure MH data is collected in a timely manner by the team.
  • Support the MEAL department in the data collection, data cleaning and data analysis.
  • Report on MHPSS activities.

 

Developing community mental health interventions if needed

  • Assist in the assessment of mental health needs and proposition of interventions in coordination with partners and the MH Coordinator to improve or settle mental health coverage.
  • Supervise the delivery of support group sessions by the case management team

 

Sensitization and capacity building among PHC staff on MHPSS.

  • Facilitate the preparation of awareness/training sessions about MHPSS guidelines for Primary Health Care centers, and support any basic training on GBV and on basic support to survivors of abuse
  • In coordination with MH Coordinator, train and/or assist in the facilitation of training for MdM’s case-management team as well as partner’s staff and community members on MHPSS issues.
  • Ensure the smooth implementation of MH integration activities at the PHCC level; support the MH case management team as needed.

 

Utilize the referral system between community and the PHCC as well as secondary treatment level, and the complaint response mechanism

  • Assist in the development of effective referral systems between the community and the PHCC.
  • Utilize the referral system to secondary mental health care (hospitalization) and other services, such as shelter and Protection.
  • Ensure that the staff has an updated service mapping of the secondary mental health care
    (hospitalization), protection, safe shelter, livelihood activities etc.
  • Participate in the proper functioning of the complaint response mechanism of the MHPSS activities at the PHCC

 

Analysis, detection and reduction of risk factors influencing the mental health status at the community level

  • In collaboration with the mental health team, explore and detect the potential risk factors influencing mental health status of the target population.
  • When required, coordinate with other stakeholders to reduce and/or eliminate potential risk factors.
  • Participate in any intended MH research study and/or professional field assessment.    

 

Other

  • Perform any other additional duty on request of his/her supervisor
  • Respect MdM principles/values and do not accept gifts in form of financial or any other compensation (ex: items/materials, food, drinks) from suppliers, traders, contractors, patients/ caregivers
  • Report progress of the MHPSS activities, in addition to challenges and way forward

 

 

 

 

 

 

This job description can be modified at any time according to changes in MdM activities or in the context with prior notice and agreement between the two parties. On demand of the direct supervisor, other tasks might be added to that present list.

Requested Competence/Skills/Profile

  • University degree in Social Work (BA or Masters), counseling, psychology or equivalent degree
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with an NGO.
  • Previous MHPSS experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of MHPSS principles and standards
  • Good knowledge of MEAL is an asset.
  • Good communication skills are a key factor to this position.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft word and excel.
  • Arabic and English languages are mandatory.
  • Team Management experience for a minimum of 1 year
  • Good knowledge of case management
  • Believes in a comprehensive and holistic approach towards positive mental health.
  • Ability to conduct workshops, on the job trainings
  • Ability to work daily in Al Qaa  
  • Ability to work with a team as well as to work independently.
  • Ability to seek, collect, and critically analyse data and information needed to achieve the tasks.
  • Ability to communicate any technical or non-technical topic with clarity and to share any important project information with the team.
