I. Introduction

Organization Background Information

The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a Lebanese NGO registered at the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities under no. 1186 on 18 June 2014, which aims to expand, manage, and protect Lebanon’s forests and landscapes through a community-based approach. We work on building resilient communities to environmental threats, increasing environmental awareness and education, advocating for forest conservation, and advancing research in the forestry field.

Program Background

The Youth Conservation Corps Program is a program developed by the US Forest Service, building on the earlier Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) program that sought to address both unemployment and the need for conservation work across the U.S. back in the 1930s and 1940s. The Youth Conservation Corps has been since replicated by USFS IP in several countries around the world. The purpose of the YCC is to train eligible youth in educational, social, and vocational skills, while assisting in the conservation of the Nation’s natural resources and contributing value to local communities. The overarching goal of the Youth Conservation Corps is to offer young people exciting, engaging work on public lands and protected areas, with the purpose of developing an ethic of environmental stewardship and civic responsibility.
