Level of Effort:
The Consultant will work as an Expressive Arts Therapy Consultant. Expressive Arts Therapy is a combination of the visual arts, movement, drama, music, writing and other creative processes to foster deep personal growth and community development. By integrating the arts processes and allowing one to flow into another, we gain access to our inner resources for healing, clarity, illumination, and creativity.
Background: The sessions’ aims are to support the participants on a psychosocial level. They are currently thriving in challenging contexts, be it as adults and as kids/teenagers, they are absorbing all the negative energy around them. The session will focus on helping the participants strengthen their coping mechanisms with the current situation, provide them with a safe space for expression and prompt healing.
Purpose: The purpose of this scope of work is to support the procurement of the services of the consultant to plan for, travel to and/or implement expressive arts therapy sessions.
Task Description: Consultant will serve as the Expressive Arts Therapy consultant project’s activity in Lebanon. Specifically, Consultant will complete the following tasks:
The Expressive Arts Therapy will not tackle issues directly, but will be working around them, allowing the creative process to visualize new insights to the issues the participants are facing.
The techniques used will include:
- Drawing: shapes, specific subjects, and free creative drawing
- Painting: particular prompts and free painting (some easy techniques will be taught)
- Hand crafts (recycling art, origami, mini doll making, 3D crafts etc., they will include easy techniques that will be taught)
- Sculpting (clay and modeling clay with craft accessories if possible)
- Photography (using their own mobiles when available and props)
- Mixed media art (using all of the above)
- Dance/movement (using dance movement therapy principles, applied to the expressive arts philosophy)
- Acting (the range can go from fun expressive exercises to more serious to slightly more serious role playing; role playing, if used, will follow the therapeutic spiral model approach to avoid re-traumatization and keep in line with the somatic/expressive arts approach)
- Music (using music instruments, which can also be crafted with the participants, listening, and moving…)
Using the creative process, a low skill high sensitivity approach as well as a decentering approach, the sessions will help participants achieve the following:
- Find and develop new insights into issues that are bothering them, whether consciously or unconsciously
- Express themselves, and emotions, in a safe space
- Allow the creative process to facilitate positive change in their day to day and personal behavior.
- Provide them with new positive coping mechanisms that should replace old negative ones.
- Relieve stress and anxiety.
- Allow them to better communicate and express themselves.
- Lots of other positive outcomes can occur too, we are always pleasantly surprised when we do these sessions…
- Usage of creative techniques to reach the above-mentioned goals such as
Ensure that all needed materials are provided and available.
