Geitawi Collective Coordinator

A collective of residents living in Geitawi Achrafieh, around the Jesuit Public Garden, “Jesuit Garden Neighborhood Gathering” known as “LIKAA,” are creating sustainable community activities and ways of revitalizing their neighborhood. These projects include: monthly community meetings, markets, and activities that support physical and mental wellbeing (sports or talks), social connectivity (games, tours and workshops) and cultural activities (music, film, theater) as well as programs to maintain and improve public spaces.

LIKAA’s main partner is the Assabil Association, who has a branch of the public library in the Jesuit Public Garden as well as other neighborhood associations and NGOs.

 

The coordinator will work closely with the Active Members (AM) of LIKAA collective to manage projects aimed at creating positive change in the community. The individual will be responsible for coordinating with key actors and setting up meetings with the committee members, heads of organizations, prospective donors, the municipality, etc. They will also be in charge of administrative & financial tasks, social media & print communications, and event planning.   

 

For this role, LIKAA is searching for a motivated person that cares deeply about improving the neighborhood, can work well with all kinds of people and groups, loves green spaces, and believes in the value of public spaces and community cohesion. This position is not only for a self-starter, but someone who feels comfortable talking to people and managing events along with a basic knowledge and willingness to learn administrative skills/ computer skills. The AM can provide information, training, guidance and will be overseeing all projects with the coordinator.

 

the coordinator should be reliable and passionate about community work with a willingness to learn.  He or she will be the focal point for the collective for all its activities and interaction with community,

  • Attend meetings, work closely with Assabil Librarian and AM group/ graphic designer/ intern
  • Coordinate meetings, take meeting minutes, delegate and do implementation steps;
  • Responsible on coordinating on going activities and making sure that they are growing properly
  • Participate in designing new activities based on community needs and together with AMs;
  • Attend all events, photograph/video events (to post on social media), help with event materials/ refreshments, welcome new members/ participants, add them to whatsapp group,
  • Coordinate submissions of other grant applications, including consultation, writing, budget and follow ups?
  • Work with graphic designer and communications intern for event flyers, posts, stories, photos/video, and text captions
  • Experience in planning and reviewing budgets;
  • Should feel comfortable working with the municipality, NGOs, donors, community members of different age groups and different backgrounds;
  • Should be comfortable coordinating events & working on a team
  • Should have computer skills for word, excel, powerpoint
  • Should be familiar with social media platforms & taking photos
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic (speaking and writing)
  • Priority given to neighborhood residents (Geitawi)
