The Global Health Institute (GHI) at the American University of Beirut is looking for a Research Associate.
The research associate will work with the Academy team on several research projects and will be expected to independently lead on production of scholarly research of publishable quality.
The research associate will work on a variety of tasks including but not limited to:
- Writing research outputs/scholarly articles
- Preparing and handling applications and proposals for ethical review
- Developing/writing research proposals
- Developing/writing grant applications
- Carrying out qualitative and quantitative data collection, management, and analysis
- Preparing conference and meetings presentations
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a health-related field, with at least 2 years of research experience in health-related fields.
- Relevant previous experience of working on research projects, with proven research outputs (published scientific articles).
- Previous experience in conducting scoping / systematic reviews
- Experience in preparing research tools (surveys, questionnaires, etc.)
- Proven experience in performing data collection and management
- Advanced writing skills and excellent report writing, presentation, and documentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Proven excellent analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Previous experience in an academic research environment

There will inevitably be changes in the emphasis of duties as the research project progresses from the planning to the implementation phases. About the Evaluation of Capacity Building Component (eCAP)Launched in 2019, eCAP is a component under the Academy Division at the Global Health Institute. The primary goal of eCAP is to develop a model to optimize the design, delivery, and evaluation of global health capacity building initiatives that use innovative learning modalities in fragile and conflict-affected settings. To do so, eCAP focuses on producing evidence to support the development of the model through scoping/systematic reviews, case studies evaluating multiple capacity building initiatives of the Academy, and meta-syntheses of compiled data.

Established in 2017, the Global Health Institute (GHI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) is the first global health institute in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and is one of the very few in the Global South. GHI addresses global health challenges with a focus on context and sustainable impact by employing an interdisciplinary approach. The primary focus of GHI are challenges that are affecting the MENA region, but have relevance to and impact on other regions in the global south.
