Program Manager for Iraq and food sovereignty

The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung (RLS) is an internationally operating non-profit institution that has become a provider of political education and a center for progressive social research in both Germany and throughout the world. RLS promotes critical analysis of society, and supports transnational, emancipatory and solidarity networks that strive for democratic and social participation and empowerment. RLS is affiliated with the German political party "The Left/ Die Linke".

RLS is working in Lebanon since 2017. The Beirut office currently works within Lebanon and Iraq as its main countries of cooperation (in close cooperation with local partner institutions, groups, and individuals on site) and cooperates with partners from Syria in the diaspora. RLS also analyzes developments in Iran.

Main responsibilities

  • Further develop RLS program for food sovereignty in Iraq and support the formation of networks in the field;
  • Analyze political, economic and societal developments in Iraq;
  • Participate in national and international dialogues and conferences;
  • Plan and implement national and transnational projects with partners in Iraq;
  • Work closely with partners in Iraq, monitor their activities, expenses and budget, take part in planning workshops and deal with administrative tasks related to these partners;
  • Coordinate closely with the program manager for food sovereignty in Lebanon;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of other programs of the Beirut office when needed;
  • Support the overall performance and further development of RLS office in Beirut.

 

 

Required qualifications

  • MA or PhD degree in regional studies, economy, ecology, political science, anthropology
  • Work experience and publications in the field of political economy and food sovereignty in the West Asia region;
  • Work experience and publications on Iraq;
  • Experience in Project Management, Administration and Monitoring;
  • Language skills: Arabic, English, Kurdish (German as an asset);
  • Responsible and self-reliantly organized team worker;
  • Highly motivated, very communicative and creative;
  • Identification with the overall goals of the RLS.

 

Post Conditions

  • Type of contract: Local Lebanese consultancy contract until the end of 2023 with the possibility of extension;
  • Working hours: Part time (25 hours/week):
  • Location: Suleymaniye/Beirut with possible business trips to Germany and other countries in the West Asia region
  • Salary & Conditions: According to RLS Beirut Salary Scale
  • Starting date: July 2023
