Business Development Expert - EMA - Food System Challenge

Scope of work and Deliverables

The Consultant is expected to fulfill the following in addition to any other task required:

  1. SWOT Analysis:
    • Conduct a comprehensive SWOT analysis to assess EMA Trading's status, identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in relation to expanding the market locally and regionally.
    • Identify gaps, challenges, and opportunities that need to be addressed for sustainable growth.
  2. Mission and Vision Development:
    • Design a clear mission and vision statement for EMA Trading, aligning with the existing business model and the long-term vision of stakeholders.
    • Ensure that the mission and vision reflect the goal of providing affordable organic products to a wider audience.
  3. SMART Goal Setting:
    • Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals as milestones to monitor progress, achievements, and status.
    • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and evaluate the company's progress towards the vision.
  4. Market Identification and Research:
    • Identify potential markets for expansion, with a focus on the Gulf region.
    • Conduct a market survey and collect relevant data to assess market size, demand, and potential competition.
    • Perform a thorough competition analysis and comparative benchmarking study to understand market dynamics and positioning.
  5. Brand and Price Positioning Strategy:
    • Develop a brand positioning strategy for EMA Trading, considering its organic product offerings and target audience.
    • Evaluate the price structure with a cost optimization approach, ensuring competitive pricing while maintaining profitability.
  6. Partnership and Alliances:
    • Identify potential partnership models and recommend suitable alliances in the local market to support EMA Trading's expansion plans.
    • Develop a strategy and approach for forming partnerships with farmers, suppliers, distributors, or other relevant stakeholders in the organic product supply chain.
  7. Sustainable Infrastructure Development:
    • Recommend strategies for building a sustainable infrastructure that supports the monitoring of the organic product supply chain.
    • Provide guidance on quality control, certifications, logistics, and efficient distribution channels to ensure the availability of affordable organic products.
  • Deliverables:
  1. SWOT Analysis Report:
    • A comprehensive report presenting the findings of the SWOT analysis, highlighting key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
  2. Mission and Vision Statement:
    • Clearly defined mission and vision statements that align with the company's business model and long-term stakeholder vision.
  3. SMART Goals and KPIs:
    • SMART goals with measurable milestones and identified KPIs to track progress and evaluate achievements.
  4. Market Identification and Research Report:
    • A detailed report on potential target markets, including the Gulf region, based on market surveys, data analysis, competition analysis, and benchmarking studies.
  5. Brand and Price Positioning Strategy:
    • A strategy document outlining the brand positioning strategy, including recommendations for brand messaging, differentiation, and competitive pricing.
  6. Partnership and Alliances Strategy:
    • Recommendations for potential partnership models and a strategy for forming alliances with farmers, suppliers, distributors, and other relevant stakeholders.
  7. Sustainable Infrastructure Development Plan:
    • Recommendations for building a sustainable infrastructure to monitor the organic product supply chain, including quality control, certifications, logistics, and distribution channels.

The consultant will provide these deliverables within the specified intervention period after working closely with the company to have a clear development plan for their expansion locally and regionally.

As part of the program’s Monitoring and Evaluation (ME&L) processes, the consultant is required to:

  • Deliver a briefing report to the program’s team.
  • Attending check-ins short meetings, if needed and required by the program’s team
  • Attending MEL induction meeting before the beginning of the session if requested by the program’s team
  • Conducting pre-post assessment, feedback and attendance as requested by the program team

  Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, MSc Degree in marketing, business administration, communications, economics, entrepreneurship, and international business, and any other relevant field.  
  • At least 15 years of experience in similar projects.
  • Excellent communications and report writing skills.
  • Fluent in English and Arabic

How to Apply

The selected Consultant is expected to start his/her activities at the soonest after selection; the exact timeline and effective working days are to be set based on both the company’s and the Consultant’s availability not exceeding the end of November 2023. The total budget allocated for the intervention is within the range of USD 300/man-day.

Candidates should submit the following documents:

  • Technical (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in section: “Scope of Work, Outputs, and Deliverables” elaborating it further.
  • Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs shall be included as annex) along with project references on the topic.
  • Financial Proposal describing the expected renumeration and the proposed timeline and Days of intervention.

General Conditions: This is a Request for Proposal only. Issuance of this RFQ does not in any way obligate Berytech, the Food System Challenge Project, or WFP to make an award or pay for costs incurred by potential offerors in the preparation and submission of an offer.
