Berytech is seeking to hire consultants that will be able to analyze and enhance the shelf-life for products to be launched in pouches to Irma & Co.as per the scope of the interventions mentioned below: Irma & Co produces Armenian specialized products such as pepper powder, pepper paste, Sujouk spices, Basterma and its spices, molasses, and several other Armenian touched products located in Beirut.
Scope of work and DeliverablesThe Consultant is expected to fulfill the following in addition to any other task required:
- Product Analysis and Shelf-Life Assessment:
- Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the chili paste product, including its formulation, ingredients, and packaging materials.
- Assess the current shelf life of the chili paste and identify factors affecting its quality and safety.
- Shelf-Life Enhancement Strategies:
- Develop customized strategies to extend the shelf life of the chili paste, considering preservation techniques, formulation modifications, and packaging improvements.
- Identify methods to enhance product stability, prevent spoilage, and maintain quality over an extended period.
- Quality Testing and Safety Parameters:
- Conduct lab testing to evaluate the quality parameters of the chili paste, including sensory analysis, chemical analysis, and microbial testing.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, such as pH levels, water activity, and microbial load, to ensure product safety.
- Packaging Evaluation:
- Evaluate the current pouch packaging for its suitability in preserving the quality and freshness of the chili paste.
- Recommend packaging modifications, such as barrier properties or sealing techniques, to enhance product shelf life and prevent spoilage.
- Documentation and Recommendations:
- Provide detailed documentation of the analysis, testing results, and recommendations for shelf-life enhancement.
- Offer guidelines on storage conditions, handling procedures, and recommended shelf life for the chili paste product.
Deliverables:
- Product Analysis and Shelf-Life Assessment Report:
- A comprehensive report summarizing the analysis of the chili paste product, current shelf-life assessment, and factors affecting quality and safety.
- Shelf-Life Enhancement Strategies:
- Recommendations and strategies for extending the shelf life of the chili paste, including preservation techniques, formulation modifications, and packaging improvements.
- Quality Testing and Safety Parameters Report:
- Detailed testing results and analysis of the quality parameters, including sensory analysis, chemical analysis, and microbial testing.
- Packaging Evaluation and Recommendations:
- Evaluation of the current pouch packaging and recommendations for modifications to enhance product shelf life and freshness.
- Documentation and Guidelines:
- Documentation providing guidelines on storage conditions, handling procedures, and recommended shelf life for the chili paste product.
The consultant will provide these deliverables within the specified intervention period after working closely with Irma & Co to enhance the shelf life of their products in pouches and ensure their quality and safety.
As part of the program’s Monitoring and Evaluation (ME&L) processes, the consultant is required to:
- Deliver a briefing report to the program’s team.
- Attending check-ins short meetings, if needed and required by the program’s team
- Attending MEL induction meeting before the beginning of the session if requested by the program’s team
- Conducting pre-post assessment, feedback and attendance as requested by the program team

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, MSc Degree in food processing, quality control, food safety, food science, environmental Health, hospitality management, and any other relevant field.
- At least 15 years of experience in similar projects.
- Excellent communications and report writing skills.
- Fluent in English and Arabic
The selected Consultant is expected to start his/her activities at the soonest after selection; the exact timeline and effective working days are to be set based on both the company’s and the Consultant’s availability not exceeding the end of November 2023. The total budget allocated for the intervention is within the range of USD 300/man-day.
Candidates should submit the following documents:
- Technical (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in section: “Scope of Work, Outputs, and Deliverables” elaborating it further.
- Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs shall be included as annex) along with project references on the topic.
- Financial Proposal describing the expected renumeration and the proposed timeline and Days of intervention.
