Digital Literacy (Python Language Instructor) - Arsal

Background of the project

Scope of work

IRC Community Development Center (CDC) is a safe and public space established with the main objective to empower refugee and local communities, of all ages, gender, and backgrounds, and provide them with the means to promote their participation in decisions that affect their lives. The CDC supports refugee and Lebanese women, girls, men, and boys of diverse backgrounds to access vital information about services, acquire new skills, build social networks, and receive specialized services such as case management, psychosocial support (PSS), among other interventions. The CDC is one of the ways to strengthen outreach to refugees living in urban settings (and promote refugee and host community interactions, thus reducing isolation).

The CDC project relies on the input of host and refugee communities to select the most context-relevant training sessions. The skills training topics are selected through data gathered from the community after analyzing the findings of a needs assessment conducted with both Syrian Refugee and Lebanese communities; in addition to a market assessment that ensures these training sessions properly match market needs. Thus, a training on Digital Literacy (Python) was selected to be delivered to the CDC’s target groups, where IRC staff will draft the Terms of Reference (ToRs) and local skills training providers will develop the training curriculum and conduct the training course.

The training provider is not expected to exactly match the below contents, but rather work on developing a curriculum and a training methodology that will enable trainees to achieve the Learning Outcomes.

The topics covered throughout the training will include, but are not limited to:

  • Core Python Programming (PyCharm, Print Function, Integer)
  • Idea about real-world applications of Python
  • Python Functions (Int, Float, Str, Input).
  • Creating Projects using Python Programming Language (Indexing, slicing)
  • Loops in Python.
  • Datatypes in Python.
  • Operators in Python.
  • Math Library in Python (Pip, external libraries).

Deliverables:

  • 10 sessions / 4 hours each training session.
  • One curriculum for the duration of 40 hours to each participant is equivalent to a maximum period of 4 weeks, including theory and practice activities.
  • A facilitator’s guide including:
    • The training calendar with session titles.
    • The Facilitator’s Guide organized by training sessions describing session topic, learning objectives, duration of the session, list of key contents and talking points, sequence of steps to deliver the session, and required materials.
    • Reference material
  • Attendance sheets of each training day.
  • Digital photos of the training sessions submitted to IRC.
  • A training report (Annex 1) including the results of pre- and post-tests of each trainee with a baseline and an end-line score, and individual recommendations on areas for improvement. The report should be sent in soft and hard copy.
