Hygiene Promotion Officer

General objective:

 

Under the supervision of the WASH and Infrastructure Program Manager or his/her Deputy, the hygiene promotion Officer is in charge of the needs assessment, the preparation, implementation and monitoring of Hygiene Promotion and awareness activities.

 

The main challenges:

 

  • Manage the weekly schedule of awareness sessions, trainings and distributions efficiently.
  • Deploy behavior change theories and be innovative in the delivery of awareness sessions and trainings.

 

 

Priorities for the 2/3 first months:

  • Participate in data collection for selection of beneficiaries.
  • Participate in designing awareness sessions materials.
  • Participate in outreach activities.

 

Responsibilities and main activities:

 

Main tasks:

 

Community Mobilization

 

  • Inform the community about SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL’s activities and answer any question related to the organization and the program;
  • Be aware of the evolving needs of the population in the intervention area and report any information related to changes in the health and hygiene conditions of the population;
  • Encourage community involvement through finding innovative ideas;

 

Community Surveys (needs assessment, HH registration, KAP survey, health data collection…)

 

  • Conduct different assessments and surveys (people identifications , hygiene practices surveys ,needs assessment activities and post-intervention evaluation))
  • Participate in Hygiene Promotion strategy definition.
  • Take part in the identification of beneficiaries for the WASH activities (Toilet construction / rehabilitation, distribution of water tanks and water filters, distribution of hygiene kits)
  • Conduct Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) surveys related to Hygiene and provide inputs for the development of the questionnaires and methodology 
  • Enter data in the Analysis Software / database

 

Hygiene Promotion Sessions and Distribution

 

  • Provide inputs for the development of the Hygiene Promotion modules, in collaboration with the WASH Program Manager and deputy Program Manager
  • Manage HP session in schools, vulnerable households, distribution points…
  • Promote Hygiene to children to help them acquire safer hygiene behaviours
  • Take part in the distribution of Hygiene Kits (Menstrual Hygiene kits , Cleaning kits ..etc)  and WASH items (water filters and water tanks) for the beneficiary population; during the distributions, provide guidance for the safe utilization of the distributed items
  • Prepare, create and organize hygiene promotion and awareness activities adapted to the needs and beneficiaries.
  • Create inventive ways of disseminating messages (by songs, short plays, public advocacy…)
  • Propose specifications for each item in the different types of hygiene kits
  • Participate in Checking the quality of each item in the different types of hygiene kit.
  • Punctually participate in other SI activities (mass media event, FGD, assessments, emergency distribution, …)
  • Ensure adequate coordination with partners in WASH and protection and ensure the appropriate response to referrals received.
  • Ensure proper coordination with IM team to inform the beneficiaries on distribution date, method, time range and its content Via SI’s digital innovation” SOLIS BOT”
  • Participate in designing specific materials for menstrual and food hygiene good practices.
  • Conducting hygiene good practices sessions at community and household level.
  • Participate in preparing term of reference to hire a consultant to design and produce a video about menstrual hygiene good practices.
  • Ensure the appropriate archiving of all electronic and physical copies associated with each activity.

 

 

Evaluation / diagnostic:

 

  • Help in setting up criteria for selecting beneficiaries
  • Identification of target groups through the communities (women, vulnerable…)
  • Collect accurate data’s at the community level
  • Assist in conducting baseline survey
  • Report any emerging needs to the Program manager and his/her assistant
  • Support technical team to settle committees or any other community association

 

Communication / representation /Coordination

 

  • Mobilize the targeted communities and create awareness about the program activities
  • Listen to complains from the different groups of the communities
  • Mitigate problem between communities when it arises
  • Analyze actions to be done to avoid any security accident at community level
  • Give support for all Solidarités International activities for community mobilization and communication with local authorities, site and village leaders
  • Facilitate and build up and maintain good relationships and communication with the beneficiaries in the assigned sites
  • Represent SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL in external meetings as requested by his/her line manager
  • Ensure proper coordination with SI FSL team and local partner during the whole period of the project.
  • Use SI referrals process concerning WASH and non-WASH related issues and follow-up the actions taken by SI or others actors to respond to the issues

 

Reporting

 

  • Keep an updated attendance sheet for the hygiene promotion sessions
  • Report your activities to your management
  • Update regularly the distribution and awareness hygiene database.
  • Collect health data from various sources (municipalities, hospitals, clinics, health NGOs, etc.) in order to keep a record of the health situation in the area of intervention
  • Maintain an accurate reporting and data entry and data management of the activities, incidents, achievements, referrals, information, etc.

You could be asked other responsibilities and tasks within the framework of your job on demand of the WASH Program Manager.

PROFILE NEEDED

 

Education and experience

 

  • A degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience in WASH programming (hygiene promotion programs or community based humanitarian programs), preferably with an NGO
  • Work experience with local communities, children, and vulnerable people
  • Knowledge of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programming, including technical standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with the Lebanese context, including the political, social, and economic landscape.

Language :

ARABIC LANGUAGE: Fluent

ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Fluent

FRENCH LANGUAGE: None (a plus)

 

 

Knowledge and technical skills:

 

  • Knowledge of Humanitarian WASH sector.
  • Excellent understanding of humanitarian principles, accountability, and do no harm.
  • Knowledge in Hygiene best practices.
  • Knowledge in behavior change theories and practices.
  • IT:  Proficiency with the standard MS Office package compulsory (Word, Excel -large data management capacity is a must, Outlook).

 

Soft skills:

 

  • Good prioritization and organization skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Proactivity, flexibility, pragmatism, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Capacity to work under pressure, solve problems, and decide quickly on contingency actions.
  • Good analytical and writing/editing skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including community members, suppliers, and other NGOs.

A salaried post: 1325 USD as basic salary
