Committee Coordinator

Job Purpose: To assist in implementing activities related to committee work under the Porticus grant.

Basmeh & Zeitooneh is undertaking a project to work directly with four committees of individuals, two located in Bar Elias and two in Tripoli, in order to work on creating advocacy initiatives and/or campaigns regarding key issues of note to the members of these committees. Two committees are made up of youth, while two are selectively women’s committees, and encompass both Syrian refugees and members of the host community. 

The Committee Coordinator will be responsible for liaising with the committees, and ensuring that all activities are running smoothly. The responsibilities will occur in two cycles.

Reports To: Head of Advocacy (Technical), Regional Peacebuilding Advisor (Advisory).

Major Activities:

  • To identify existing committees in Bekaa and Tripoli made up of women or youths, and select them to take part in the project
  • To engage in a brainstorming activity with each committee to identify potential areas of intervention 
  • To work with the committees on developing a plan of action for their intervention, i.e. to help each committee develop a concrete, realistic, and actionable advocacy strategy that would work for them in their area of residence 
  • To work with the committees to develop clear and detailed budgets for their interventions along with collecting clear and specific quotations from the market related to their initiatives.
  • To liaise with other organizations that could provide campaign and advocacy training from diverse perspectives to the committees
  • To provide technical tools and training per the demands/wants of the committees 
  • To build a connection with local policymakers where the committee members reside 
  • To connect the committees with relevant stakeholders to present their final strategies 
  • Coordinate and communicate with support services, to ensure abiding by the budget and procurement of all needed materials and equipment for social initiatives and other project activities
  • Coordinate with the M&E unit and technical advisors to ensure proper development of evaluation tools for the project activities and set up lessons learned and closing meetings for the project.
  • Coordinate with the communications unit to ensure proper visibility of the actions done by the committees.
  • To establish a clear schedule for the committee meetings and divide the work equally between the 2 areas of implementation in coordination with the fleet management unit.
  • To ensure that all the referral pathways and referral cases are well documented, complying with confidentiality and ethical standards
  • Ensure that all data related to the project is well documented, available, and organized upon request at all times throughout the project.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Selection of 8 committees throughout the project
  • Drafting clear plans, strategies, budgets, and meeting schedules for each committee
  • Liaising with stakeholders and other organizations to expand committees’ networks in each area of implementation
  • Offering needed capacity building to committee members according to assessments and plans

Education & Experience:

  • Experience working with refugee-led organizations in Lebanon
  • Experience in working directly with refugee communities in Lebanon
  • Experience in grassroots organizing and running campaigns in Lebanon
  • Experience working in peacebuilding projects or related fields
  • Experience working with women or youths in vulnerable environments

Competencies

Functional:  

  • Previous experience working with refugees or in a multicultural context.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the challenges faced by refugee populations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with community members.
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines. 
  • Proficiency in fundamental Microsoft software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc
