Researcher – Sustainable Planning & Policy

The researcher is a key contributor to AUB-NCC's mission, actively engaging in research initiatives and supporting comprehensive studies. Their primary function involves assisting in the execution of multidisciplinary environmental research projects, participating and leading in proposal writing, developing internal programs and ensuring adherence to high-quality standards. 

Duties Performed:  

  • Collaborates with researchers, program leads, faculty, grants writer and core team in selecting research topics and priorities in alignment with the management team's direction. 
  • Contributes to the development of detailed research project plans, encompassing steps, deliverables, and timelines. 
  • Provides regular updates to stakeholders on the ongoing progress of research projects and proposals. 
  • Assists in conducting literature. 
  • Participates in data collection through diverse methods, including desk reviews, fieldwork, surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions. 
  • Supports in organizing and entering data into the research database. 
  • Contributes to the analysis of collected data and the generation of recommendations based on research findings. 
  • Assists in compiling and organizing research outcomes, including the creation of visual illustrations such as charts and infographics. 
  • Contributes to the writing of reports summarizing data and implications of results. 
  • Participates in the preparation of progress reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Supports in writing grants and other relevant documents. 
  • Leads internal research to develop and strengthen AUB-NCC’s research programs. 
  • Supervises other researchers in the implementation of their tasks when needed. 
  • Represents the center in meetings, conferences and workshops when required. 
  • Other Ad hoc tasks. 

 

Work Contacts: 

  • Regular interaction with team members, including fellow Researchers, Grant Writer, Operations Manager, Communications Officer, MEAL Officer, GIS and Data Visualization Experts, and Subject Matter Experts. Occasional contact with the Program Director, Principal Investigator, and other Research Assistants as required for projects under AUB-NCC’s programs. 

 

Independence of Operations 

  • Reports to the Associate Director with regular guidance to ensure research objectives align with AUB-NCC's strategic vision. Participates in ongoing progress updates with the other researchers or designated direct supervisors, ensuring compliance with AUB-NCC’s standards and strategy. Collaborates with other researchers, project & program leads, interns, fellows, and volunteers working on the same research project and initiatives at AUB-NCC. 

 

Minimum Requirements 

  • Holds at least a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental policy, public health, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a strong plus. 
  • Strong knowledge in sustainable urban planning, green infrastructure, climate resilience, adaptation and mitigation, and other related topics are a must. 
  • Possesses a minimum of 4 years of research experience using different methods in environmental and sustainability topics within an academic or relevant setting. 
  • Has the capacity of designing and leading multidisciplinary projects that include scientific research, stakeholder engagement, partnerships, policy outputs and similar.  
  • Delivers outcomes in a timely and well-organized manner. 
  • Exhibits strong project management skills, confirming the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Displays strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic. French is a plus. 
  • Has experience in working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, both internally within the organization and externally. 
  • Has prior experience in event organization and management. 
  • Knowledge of GIS tools is a strong plus.
