Inclusion Officer makani - (Re-advertised)

BACKGROUND
To support the growing needs of children and youth in Lebanon, Amel will launch the Makani project, a Multi-Service Community Centre (MSCC) Approach, through 19 community centers and 1 informal settlement. The project will provide a comprehensive package of integrated services targeting marginalized and vulnerable children and youth aged 0-18 years and their caregivers in the Governorates of Beirut and Mount Lebanon. The MSCCs are safe spaces that provide vulnerable children and their caregivers with a range of programs, including Education, Child Protection, Early Childhood Development (ECD), Life Skills and youth engagement support through a community-based approach, to reach both Syrian and Lebanese vulnerable children in both host communities, collective, and Informal Settlements.
Children with disabilities are among the most vulnerable groups in Lebanon – they are often out of learning, and are at higher risk of violence, abuse and neglect. According to VASYR 2017, school attendance rates were consistently lower for refugee children with disabilities across all age groups, and 80% of their families were in the lowest poverty quintile.UNICEF and NFE partners work together to ensure that children with disabilities are included in formal and non- formal education (3% target). The following support will be provided to support their inclusion.

The inclusion officer will be responsible for the inclusion of children with disabilities in NFE programs, with the tasks and responsibilities outlined below. Frequent travel is expected for this position.

Main Duties and Responsilbilities: 

 #1: Guidance and support

● Guides outreach workers, social workers, and educators in identifying and working with children with disabilities, families, and communities.
● Provides training, mentoring, and methodological support to regular teachers, helping them include children with disabilities in their learning process. This includes identifying special education needs, teaching techniques, and strategies for inclusion.


 #2: Assessment and oversight
● Conducts assessments to determine the special education needs of learners, and if necessary, refers them for formal assessment to receive specialized services or
supplies.
● Oversees the organization of specialized services for children with disabilities, ensuring their specific needs are met and barriers are addressed.
 #3: Monitoring and reporting
● Monitors the progress of learners with special education needs, discussing their development with teachers and parents. Collects data and maintains records of progress.
● Ensures accurate reporting on disabilities through various tools.
Responsibility #4: Support and coordination
● Provides support and guidance to families, ensuring their engagement in activities related to family engagement.
● Makes recommendations for the pathway of children after completing a given course of study, considering their specific needs and goals.
● Liaises with case workers to identify children in need of non-formal education and refers them to the next step in the pathway, which could be formal education or another non- formal opportunity.
● Actively participates in child protection and education sector meetings, as well as training sessions organized by UNICEF.
The Inclusion officer/Special Educator may support additional tasks and carry other responsibilities which are not mentioned above, depending on the needs of the Makani project.


Qualifications and Requirements: 
● University degree in the field of education, special education, psychology, social pedagogy, or any relevant subject;
● Three to five years of professional experience in special education or inclusive education;
● Strong familiarity with the concept of inclusive education is an asset;
● Experience in teacher training is an asset;
● Strong training & facilitation skills;
● Strong coordination skills
● Proficiency in Arabic and English
