Request for Proposal - Ecological Farming Trainer

DCA Lebanon as part of its 2023-2027 Strategy is piloting its support to the agricultural sector in South and Mount Lebanon through supporting farmers, specifically those whose lands were impacted by mines and cluster munitions, to adopt sustainable and agroecological approaches. Based on this, DCA is working on implementing two projects “Hazard to Harvest” and “Road to Sustainable Food Production”.

Overall objective:

The overall objective of this position is to facilitate ecological farming workshops for farmers across Kfar Silwan village and to support Enumerators in conducting both pre- and post-training assessments. Results to be achieved by the Contractor:

Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to empower farmers with the knowledge and skills required for the successful implementation of ecological farming practices. Additionally, the Ecological Farmer Trainer will contribute to the assessment process, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of farmers' needs and progress.

Results to be achieved by the Contractor:

The aim of this assignment is to support job creation in Kfar Silwan area through equipping members of the local communities with skills in ecological farming.

  • Scope of the Services
  1. Design and deliver workshops on ecological farming, covering key principles and practical applications.
  2. Collaborate with Enumerators to conduct pre-training assessments to gauge farmers' baseline knowledge and needs.
  3. Assist Enumerators in post-training assessments to measure the impact of the workshops and evaluate participants' progress.
  4. Provide ongoing support and guidance to Enumerators during the assessment processes.
  5. Provide technical assistance and support to the farmers to ensure that they are able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training.
  6. Tailor training materials to suit the diverse contexts of various villages.
  7. Maintain accurate records of training sessions, assessments, and participants' achievements.
  8. The consultant will report directly to the co-lead of the project which will report back to DCA head of programs.
  • Qualification requirements

-Demonstrated experience in conducting ecological farming workshops or similar training initiatives.

-In-depth knowledge of ecological farming principles, sustainable agriculture, and environmental conservation.

-Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.

-Familiarity with assessment methodologies and tools relevant to ecological farming training.

-Ability to collaborate with Enumerators and contribute to their skill development.

-Passion for promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices.

-Flexibility to adapt training approaches to diverse cultural and regional contexts.

-Proficient in record-keeping and reporting.

The contract starts at May 1, 2024, till June 30, 2024.

The contractor will be based in Silwan Village (6 days for 100 farmers, each session 25+ farmers)

  • reporting

The Contractor shall submit a task sheet that mentions the days worked during the month and description of the tasks done in English, in addition to a monthly report updating the Contracting Authority on the activities, challenges, and contract progress. The reports are to be sent digitally to the project co-lead which will revise them and share them with the Head of Program.

The contents / curriculum used by the contractor during the training should be approved by the co-leader of the project.
