- Background Information:
The Community Organization for Development and Empowerment-TCODE-INITIATE is a Nongovernmental, nonprofit, youth-oriented organization based in Lebanon and dedicated to assisting vulnerable communities through youth inclusion and empowerment. While keeping youth at its focus of its mission, TCODE-INITIATE continually endeavors in creating comprehensive and inclusive programs aimed towards the empowerment of youth, and its concentric circles of influence.
In the process of delivering its Mission TCODE-INITIATE aspires to keeping its status as a hub for youth allowing them to: access a safe space, and acquire knowledge and access to a network of social and political influencers enhancing their social participation in decision making processes.
- Purpose of the Contract:
We are seeking an experienced Agroecology Expert to join our team and lead various initiatives aimed at transforming sites into productive eco-systems through permaculture design and sustainable agricultural practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in soil science, ecology, and plant biology, coupled with a passion for promoting sustainable food production and ecological stewardship.
- Tasks:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of soil, ecological conditions, and plant species on designated sites.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their needs, priorities, and goals for the site transformation.
- Develop permaculture designs tailored to the specific site, aiming to create productive eco-systems conducive to educational activities and healthy food production.
- Provide on-site support and guidance during the implementation of permaculture designs, ensuring alignment with the proposed plan.
- Deliver training sessions in agroecology to educate participants on sustainable farming practices and techniques that eliminate reliance on chemical inputs.
- Conduct training of trainers in agroecology to empower individuals within the community to disseminate agroecological knowledge and practices effectively.
- Perform follow-up visits to sites to monitor agricultural practices, troubleshoot challenges, and provide ongoing support and guidance to clients.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agroecology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Proven experience in conducting soil assessments, ecological surveys, and permaculture design.
- Strong understanding of sustainable agriculture principles, including agroecology, organic farming, and permaculture.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in delivering training sessions and workshops on agroecology and sustainable farming practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Commitment to promoting environmental sustainability, food security, and social justice through agroecological approaches.
- Willingness to travel to project sites for assessments, training sessions, and follow-up visits as required.
- Timeframe and Location:
Three months – Saida – Lebanon.
