-Scope of responsibility:
Verbal interpretation, in person or remotely, during daily medical activities (medical round, consultations, interviews, meetings, etc.) and written translations, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure accurate, respectful, fluent and confidential communication between medical staff and local population.
-Function responsibilities include:
- Inform medical staff about important cultural nuances to consider during a meeting, medical consultation or interview with local people.
- Participate in staff trainings and meetings as an interpreter.
- Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.
- Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.
- Translate MSF internal / external documents into local language(s).
- Keep record of all translated documents.
- Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF
- Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy.
-Specific activities:
- Ensure neutrality and accuracy in all translations.
- Declare any "conflict of interest" when requested to translate, particularly in cases of personal involvement.
- Operate primarily in Wadi Khaled, with occasional travel to other locations for meeting translation.
- Maintain meeting minutes as needed.
- Support all medical activities led by MSF in the Akkar project, including maternity and mental health services.
- Assist employees with CV translation and other career-related documentation.
- Perform any additional tasks as instructed by the hierarchy.
Required qualification:
Education
• Essential: Bachelor’s degree of English language or literature, Translation, or interpretation.
Experience
• Desirable: A minimum of 1 year of previous work experience in a similar position
• Desirable: 1 year of previous experience within a local or international NGO.
Languages
• Essential: Full professional proficiency of the Arabic and English language
• Desirable: Proficiency in the French language at any level
Knowledge
• Essential: Advanced computer literacy using MS office applications (word, excel, outlook, …)
