MHGAP Psychiatrist - 2 days per month - Hermel and Arsal

Starting date: ASAP

Type of contract: Service contract, 2 days per month, fixed term, 12 months, renewable.

Place of work: Arsal-Hermel

 

Function responsibilities include:

  • Provide treatment for patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders with specific attention to the cultural context.
  • Provide training and supervision to national and international medical staff (doctors and nurses) on diagnosis and treatment of severe and common mental health disorders according to MSF guidelines.
  • Participate as a member of the mental health team when present and offer supervision and support to national psychologists and counselors.
  • Ensure that guidelines and psychotropic medications from MSF standard drug list are available in the project.
  • Ensure that proper information on treatment and follow up are collected in order to monitor the provision of care.
  • Evaluate in-country available psychiatric services including possibilities for psychiatric hospitalization and the quality of these services.
  • Form a relationship with MoH and exploration of sustainability of psychiatric treatment.
  • Establish collaboration/communication with medical specialties in the project in order to achieve a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.

 

 

 

Specific Accountabilities

  • Regular supervision of MHGAP doctors with consultations of patients, case discussions, file review.
  • Supervision includes phone calls, as needed.
  • The clinic managers, mental health supervisors and psychologists will program patients according to schedule so that on-the-job supervision can be done.
  • Visits for supervision will be performed at least 2 days per month, one day per clinic (Arsal & Hermel).
  • Together with doctors, psychologists, and Mental health supervisor, based on supervision, further training required will be proposed and planned.
  • Monthly reporting of indicators, prescriptions according to MSF protocols
  • A quarterly report concerning the program and doctors’ competencies evaluation should be done with Mental health supervisor/manager.
  • Support in stabilization of patients in need and organize referral operations that align with the department referral criteria.
  • Coordinate the training sessions for the medical and paramedical team according to the department's training plan.
  • Collaborate with both the medical and paramedical team for the effective provision of service to our beneficiaries.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and commitment to provide remote and phone support to MSF team, ensuring continuous and accessible mental health specialized care all time

Requirements

 

Education         

 

Experience          

  • Essential: At least 2 years of certified work experience in psychiatry.
  • Desirable: Previous experience with MSF or other local and/or international NGOs.

 

Languages        

  • Essential: Full professional proficiency using the Arabic and English Language.
  • Desirable: Elementary to limited professional proficiency using the French Language.

 

Knowledge        

  • Essential: Basic to intermediate computer literacy using MS-office applications (MS-Word, MS-Outlook, MS-Excel).
