MHPSS Volunteer Terms of Reference
- Project Context
The GIZ Regional Project “Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in the Middle East” is looking for a volunteer to support its team based in Lebanon. The project works on knowledge management with the aim of supporting the improvement of quality of development cooperation work and MHPSS service provision for of vulnerable groups in the region. The project aims to serve Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Syria.
- Context of the TOR
The volunteer will work with the team of the Regional Project based in Lebanon as well as with a research team commissioned through the project tasked with the development of a feminist MHPSS framework for the provision of mental health and psychosocial support services for marginalized groups in the Middle East region.
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s Degree (could be ongoing) in Psychology.
- Fluent in both Arabic and English.
- Previous experience with MHPSS community-based approaches.
- Excellent writing skills in academic publications in English; ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Experience in the application of qualitative research methods.
- Experience working in the context of forced displacement.
- Good oral communication skills in English and Arabic.
- Other Qualifications:
- Previous work/volunteer experience in the field of MHPSS is a plus.
- Knowledge on feminist approaches in MHPSS is a plus.
- Experience in Transcriptions, Data collection, and data entry is a plus.
- Successful publication of at least one academic piece, either online or in print is a plus.
- Good working knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Microsoft 365.
- Ability to work in challenging contexts.
- Creative and open-minded team player with a strong willingness to learn, possessing a constructive and positive attitude.
- Ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds.
- Tasks:
- Supporting the research team with the work on the MHPSS framework that will present an intervention plan to be tested with a local organization working with marginalized groups in Lebanon:
- Support the research team in the data collection, data entry and transcriptions of interviews or focus group discussion.
- Liaise with the participants taking part in the implementation of the feminist framework to coordinate logistics and other aspects related to the implementation when needed.
- Join team meetings and coordination and communication with project team members and research team to ensure alignment with the research objectives and provide timely feedback.
- Support the Regional Project team with the preparation of workshops, trainings, and exchanges, for instance support with attendance lists for events or meetings by compiling attendee information
- Assist in administrative tasks and office management, for instance
- Assist the admin team in the preparation of contracts by organizing necessary documents, ensuring accuracy of information, and formatting documents according to company standards.
- Overview vouchers for (travel) expenses by accurately recording expenditure details, cross-referencing receipts, and maintaining proper documentation/pre check for Country Office.
- Assist in topic-specific research, revision of documents, documentation and other ad-hoc tasks
- Time investment and number of months
The overall duration of the contract for this volunteer position would span six months. During this time, the volunteer is expected to dedicate three days per week, with flexible working hours, and participate in planned field visits as required.
