Bus Project

Since 2018 Salam's mobile classroom, the Bus Project has been visiting ITS' to provide Basic Literacy and Numeracy (BLN) classes. The classroom has limited space for students, and the bus attracts many more children than it can fit. The Bus Project animator and driver conducts Play with Purpose exterior to the classroom. Through educational activities the animator aims to give basic knowledge of colours, the alphabet and numbers. Simultaneously the project aims at encouraging healthy behaviour, expressing feelings in a constructive way and interacting with others respectfully. 

Job Description: 

The Bus Project leaves from our Zahlé office at around 10.30am and visits two locations each day, with a short break in between, returning at before 5pm.

The position is full time 7 hrs/day, 5 days a week.  

The work of Salam LADC also includes ad-hoc distributions, the Bus Project animator/driver will often take part in these, supporting them logistically, practically and by driving the bus. 

Must conduct themselves according to Salam’s mission and code of conduct.

Provide animation for the Play with Purpose project within the Bus Project. 

Work to create content which is educational and assists with psychosocial development. 

Translation from Arabic to English and vice versa, as needed for the Bus Project. 

Provide accurate and prompt reports of any projects when requested. 

Essential:

- Knowledge and understanding of NGOs and humanitarian work.

- Very Good level of English

- Proficient in the Arabic language

- Experienced driver - comfortable driving a large vehicle inside ITS. 

- Experience working in an educational setting and specifically with complex needs children

- Flexibility and willingness to support other tasks. 

Desired:

- Experience working with children from a refugee background.

- Teaching, Early Childhood Education or Childcare qualifications.
