Responsibilties:

The supervisor oversees the clinical caseload of each intern.  This includes conducting weekly one-hour meetings in which cases are discussed and SOAP notes are revised and cosigned. Additional supervision hours may be requested by the supervisor if needed. The individual supervisor is responsible for both the intern’s learning process and the well-being of the clients seen by the intern. The supervisor should be able to balance the needs of both the intern and the client.

The supervisor is expected to complete 2 formal evaluations on each intern and to submit them to the director of the clinical training program at the designated times (early to mid January and early to mid July of the training year). Should there be a need for additional follow up due to concerns about the intern’s performance, the individual supervisor is expected to reach out to the director of the training program and to share these concerns with the director of the clinical training program. Should these concerns pose a question about the intern’s ability to meet the requirements of the program, a written plan should be drafted by both the individual supervisor and the director of the clinical training program. The plan should be shared/discussed with the intern orally and in writing. More details about how to handle interns who may be placed on probation are included in the training manual.
