Key Responsibilities:
Mental Health Assessments and Interventions:
- Conduct psychosocial assessments for individuals and groups affected by the crisis, especially vulnerable populations such as migrant workers, families, and children.
- Develop and implement culturally sensitive mental health support interventions tailored to the specific needs of the affected population.
Training and Capacity Building:
- Provide training and guidance to staff, including social workers, psychologists, and volunteers, on mental health best practices, psychological first aid (PFA), and crisis intervention.
- Develop resources and conduct workshops to strengthen local capacity in mental health awareness and response.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with our multidisciplinary team, including social services, protection teams, and external partners, to ensure comprehensive care for those affected.
- Coordinate with local and international stakeholders to align mental health services with broader humanitarian efforts in the area.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
- Regularly monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of mental health interventions and adapt approaches based on feedback and evolving needs.
- Document all activities, report on progress, and provide recommendations for future mental health programming in the humanitarian context.
Advocacy and Community Engagement:
- Engage with community leaders and stakeholders to foster acceptance and understanding of mental health initiatives.
- Advocate for mental health as a critical component of humanitarian response, emphasizing the importance of mental health for resilience and recovery.
- Other tasks as indicated by the management.
- The MH Consultant reports to the Project Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Psychiatry, or a related field.
- Proven experience in mental health support in a humanitarian or crisis context, preferably with iNGOs.
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and community mental health programming.
- Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills; fluency in English required, with Arabic proficiency preferred.
- Ability to work under pressure in challenging and rapidly changing environments.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Education: Master’s degree in Psychology.
- Experience: At least 3 years in MHPSS and humanitarian aid, preferably with an INGO.
- Language: Proficient in English and Arabic.
Skills:
- Expertise in planning, monitoring, and evaluating MHPSS interventions.
- Knowledge of cultural dynamics in crisis settings and UN cluster coordination.
- Strong communication, both written and verbal, with proven flexibility and adaptability.
- Excellent time and task management, with the ability to work independently within guidelines.
- Diplomacy, cultural sensitivity, and a high degree of security awareness.
- Strong commitment to developing expertise and contributing to MSD's mission and values.
