WASH Assistant

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY ABOUT THE JOB:

Islamic Relief Lebanon is implementing a WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) emergency program to meet the needs of the IDPs in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Beqaa and North Lebanon.

The WASH Assistant will contribute to this program by implementing the WASH activities such as conducting WASH assessment, distributing hygiene materials, water trucking services, water connections activities, sanitation activities, promoting safe hygiene practices, facilitating community involvement, and building the capacity of Community Hygiene Promoters.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Promote, monitor, survey, and assess the target area and group level;
2. Conduct needs assessment for the Collective shelters.
3. Support the WASH officer in preparing the BoQ and the activities to be implemented in the collective shelters or outside the collective shelters.
4. Implement and monitor the following activities: hygiene kits distribution, bottled water distribution, water trucking, water tanks installation, water connection, sewage connection, bathrooms rehabilitation and installation of new latrines, and/or any other WASH activities.
5. Conduct hygiene promotion field sessions, and ensure community engagement.
6. Arrange thematic focus group discussions, awareness, and hygiene promotion sessions.
7. Regular meetings with the line manager and other team members and provide regular updates;
8. Develop trust, tolerance, and cooperation among community members;
9. Report any incidences related to the protection of IDPs, host communities, and other vulnerable groups to the management, including security concerns;
10. Support in proper documentation of the project in both hard and soft copies.
11. Perform other relevant tasks as assigned by the line manager.
12. Coordinate with IRL staff and key stakeholders regarding services in all its aspects.
13. Ensure that standards (e.g safety, security, environmental, quantity, quality) are followed during service provision.
14. Gather and share appropriate information that would enhance the project implementation.
15. Ensure that all Services- related data (e.g, activity monitoring) is well managed and provides an accurate representation of the reality on the ground.
16. Submit regular reports to line manager.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION/SKILLS/ESSENTIAL

1. Bachelor’s degree in Social science, Management, or any other related field.
2. Good in written and spoken Arabic and English.
3. Minimum of 2 years of experience in WASH activities.
4. Minimum of 1 year of experience in International/ local NGOs in WASH activities
5. Experience in engineering/rehabilitation activities is a plus.
6. Thorough knowledge of MS Office and Data collection tools (Kobo, ODK, etc.)                  
7. Commitment to Islamic Relief Core values and mission statement.

9. Strong communication, and interpersonal skills.
10. Ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
11. Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to challenging environments.
