Nutrition Officer

Key responsibilities

Accountability and Complexity

  • The job holder will work independently while maintaining open communication with other team members
  • A high level of discretion, transparency, and attention to detail is required
  • The job holder needs to have excellent planning, organizational and data collection skills
  • The job holder will have some decision-making authority within the scope of the role but should discuss decisions with the Nutrition coordinator

Project monitoring and implementation  

  • Provide oversight of nutrition activities being implemented in line with the planned project, work plans, targets and resources on a national scale
  • Ensure that nutrition activities are well coordinated and harmonized across all areas
  • Conduct routine supervision to the day-to-day work of the ECD counselors and Lactation specialists
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders to facilitate smooth and efficient program operations. This includes the coordination with municipalities and shelters to establish MBCs
  • Plan, oversee and ensure the effective implementation of the MBCs across all areas
  • Assist in preparing procurement and payment requests
  • Propose improvements for more effective implementation of activities
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required

Team Management

  • Manage and supervise a team composed of ECD counselors and IYCF specialists
  • Conduct regular team meetings to ensure alignment with program goals and address any challenges
  • Provide ongoing support to enhance team members' skills and professional development
  • Monitor performance and provide constructive feedback to maintain high standards of service deliver
  • Supervise and manage the stock of nutrition supplies
  • Ensure the timely requisition and distribution nutritional supplements and rations for targeted age groups: Multiple Micronutrient Powders, Multiple Micronutrient Supplements, complementary feeding kits, etc.

Capacity building

  • Provide nutrition trainings to program staff and volunteers as needed
  • Provide on-the-job coaching to team members

Reporting

  • Collect and report data on nutrition program outcomes, challenges, and lessons learned
  • Track and submit weekly, bi-weekly and monthly reports as required

Behavior and conduct

  • Ensures that behavior inside and outside of work promotes the values in RI’s code of conduct and safeguarding policies
  • Acts with integrity and holds themselves accountable for being respectful, inclusive and professional
  • Reports any concerns

Person Specification

Skills, knowledge and expertise required for the role.

Essential criteria

  • Bachelor degree in Nutrition and dietetics (preferred), public health, or any related field
  • At least three years of experience
  • Previous experience in nutrition programs (IYCF, malnutrition, ECD etc)
  • Trained on Nutrition in emergencies and ECD.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively convey health information to diverse community members
  • Self-motivated and initiative taker
  • Good report writing skills
  • Excellent skills related to Microsoft Office
  • Capacity to work well within a team, maintaining open communication with colleagues and supervisors

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience in nutrition program in an emergency setting
  • Proficiency in data collection and reporting, ensuring accurate and timely updates to relevant databases
