HOU2024 62 Field Assistant (Shelter and Settlement) - 10 Positions

Working under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager (Shelter and Settlement) and the direct supervision of the Shelter Operations Officer, the Field Assistant (Shelter and Settlements) will conduct Shelter and Settlement activities in the designated area of responsibility.

The individual will be responsible for the following:

  1. Assist in the implementation of Shelter and Settlements activities at the field level, ensuring day-to-day operations, including assessments and verification processes, are conducted in accordance with SOPs and shelter sector recommendations. 
  2. Conduct technical assessments of shelter needs, including structural assessments and damage analysis in targeted locations. 
  3. Develop and review detailed designs, technical drawings, Bills of Quantities (BoQs), and technical specifications for shelter interventions, including rehabilitation, winterization, and site expansion works. 
  4. Oversee and monitor construction and rehabilitation works to ensure quality and compliance with IOM standards. 
  5. Offer technical guidance and oversight to contractors, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and timelines. 
  6. Collaborate with IOM’s field staff and relevant authorities on site planning, rehabilitation, and construction activities. 
  7. Engage with local authorities, site management teams, and humanitarian partners to ensure coordination of shelter interventions. 
  8. Perform any other duties as may be assigned to support the effective implementation of Shelter and Settlements activities.

Required Qualifications and Experience

EDUCATION 

University degree in Civil Engineering

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in NGOs or volunteering, ideally leading operational teams or activities 
  • Experience using Kobo as a data collection tool
  • Experience with community engagement

SKILLS

  • Delivers on set objectives
  • Effectively supports project implementation
  • Works effectively with local authorities, stakeholders, the displaced population and the broader community to advance country office objectives.
  • Information Management skills are desired

Languages

REQUIRED
