Art Therapist

Scope of work:

The Art Therapist will deliver structured art therapy sessions to displaced youth residing in three collective shelters in Beirut and four in the Bekaa region by mid-December 2024. These sessions aim to support emotional expression and psychological resilience among young individuals affected by the recent war escalation. The Art Therapist will coordinate closely with the Child Protection Unit and local field staff to address the unique mental health needs of this population.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Develop a comprehensive proposal for art therapy sessions, including:
    • Objectives for each session
    • Timeline for conducting sessions across designated shelters
    • Techniques and materials to be used during each session
    • Total fees including income tax calculations
  • Organize and facilitate group and individual art therapy sessions for displaced youth in the collective shelters.
  • Coordinate with Child Protection Unit and field staff to adapt sessions to the needs of participants in Beirut and Bekaa shelters.
  • Prepare and manage materials, ensuring that all resources are safe and suitable for group use.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of sessions, modifying techniques as necessary to support psychological resilience.
  • Prepare reports in English, documenting session outcomes, participant engagement, and any challenges.
  • Refer any cases of violence to field staff members.

Required Qualifications (skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Psychology and Art Therapy.  
  • At least three years of experience in art therapy, specifically with youth.
  • In-depth understanding of mental health support in crisis and emergency contexts.
  • Experience in a non-governmental organization, and a good knowledge of local context and refugee and host communities in Beirut/Mount Lebanon;
  • Possess excellent report writing, presentation, and documentation skills Demonstrate ability to train and build the capacity of others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Arabic.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
