MEAL Assistant

Purpose of the Position

The MEAL Assistant supports the implementation of MEAL activities within the organization’s projects. This role includes data collection, data entry, supporting monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tasks, and assisting in reporting and accountability activities to ensure data quality and project learning.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Monitoring and Data Collection

  • Assist in developing and updating monitoring tools and data collection methods in collaboration with the MEAL team.
  • Conduct regular field visits to collect quantitative and qualitative data (surveys, interviews, focus groups).
  • Ensure data accuracy by closely following data collection protocols and quality standards.
  • Support the MEAL team in monitoring project outputs and outcomes against performance indicators.

 

2. Data Management and Analysis

  • Enter collected data into the appropriate databases or data management systems.
  • Assist in cleaning, organizing, and analyzing data as required by the MEAL team.
  • Support in preparing data for reports and presentations to communicate progress and findings to stakeholders.

 

3. Accountability and Learning

  • Support the establishment and maintenance of feedback mechanisms, ensuring affected populations have a voice in the projects.
  • Collect feedback from beneficiaries, record issues, and ensure appropriate follow-up actions are taken.
  • Contribute to learning initiatives by documenting lessons learned and sharing best practices with project teams.

 

4. Reporting and Documentation

  • Assist in drafting MEAL reports, case studies, and other documentation of results and learning.
  • Maintain organized files for all data, tools, and documentation relevant to MEAL activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all MEAL-related activities.

 

5. Capacity Building and Support

  • Participate in training sessions for MEAL staff, project staff, and partners on MEAL processes and tools.
  • Provide on-the-ground support to project teams to reinforce MEAL processes and data quality standards.

  

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, International Development, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in monitoring, evaluation, data collection, or related activities, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, Power BI, or similar software).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork and interact with community members.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Arabic.
  • Basic understanding of MEAL principles and practices.

Working Conditions

The position requires regular field visits and interaction with the community. Some travel may be required, depending on project needs.
