Community Workers - Beddawi and Wavel Camps

INTRODUCTION

The Women’s Programs Association (WPA) is a non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO), legally registered with the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities since 2008. Its mission is to provide support to Palestinian refugee women and youth and other vulnerable groups in Lebanon to develop their capacities, realize their rights, and fulfill their needs. This is achieved through Protection, Education, Livelihood, and Humanitarian Assistance programs implemented in eight Palestinian refugee camps and surroundings throughout Lebanon. WPA's work is guided by Transparency, Integrity, Non-Discrimination, Respect for Human Beings.

Women’s Programs Association announces the need for 8 Community Workers: 6 in Beddawi camp and 2 in Wavel. To work within the project: “Provision of Food Security, Health, and Protection Services to 1000 Elderly Palestinian Refugees in Nahr Bared, Bedawi, Wavel, Burj Barajneh”.
The project is implemented in partnership with Taawon - Funded by UN-OCHA.

Responsibilities

Under the direct technical supervision of Project Assistant, the incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Identifying participants aged 60 and above who require mobility aids and hearing assistance devices and assisting in guiding elderlies to access physical therapy, home healthcare, monitoring services, and engaging in recreational activities to improve their life
  • Providing psychological and social support to elderlies and their families and addressing any problems or difficulties they encounter in their daily lives
  • Assessing the needs, capabilities, and interests of the elderlies
  • Organizing various recreational, educational, cultural, and sports activities suitable for elderly people of different ages, to encourage their participation and interaction
  • Involving elderlies in health and recreational activities, with a focus on the most vulnerable and marginalized individuals, including those living alone, in a series of health-related activities such as laughter therapy, uplifting storytelling, and guided meditation to enhance the overall well-being of elderlies
  • Assisting in the preparation and organization of special trips for elderlies during the project period
  • Assisting in the preparation, organization, and management of activities for the participated elderlies and their families
  • Collaborating with an integrated team of specialists in physical therapy, nursing, and relaying the suggestions or complaints
  • Participating in the development and improvement of project activities.

Qualifications

    • High school diploma or its equivalent
    • Palestinian nationality
    • Residing in the Beddawi camp – North or in close to the camp
    • Residing in the Jaleel camp – Bekaa or in close to the camp
    • Having experience in the field of community work
    • Working previously with local community institutions at similar projects

Skills

    • Prior knowledge of social work ethics
    • Ability to assess the needs, weaknesses, and risks of the elderly and plan appropriate interventions
    • Communication and relationship-building skills
    • Ability to work with team, elderlies, and other participants
    • Awareness of social justice issues and human rights
