NTS Team Leader

Position’s mission:

To supervise and manage the Non-Technical Survey team and ensure the team management, deployment of team members in the field, reporting, team equipment and safety.

 

Reporting to: Chief of Operations

Manage: CLO; NTS Surveyor/Assistant, Driver

Interacts with:           

Internally: The Project Manager and the project team; The support services staff

Externally: LMAC, related partners

 

Missions / Responsibilities

Responsibility 1: Lead and conduct non-technical survey activities in parallel with other MA activities

Aim:    Conduct survey in accordance with SOPs and NMAS

Benchmarks: Easy access to information and database, Satisfaction of direct line manager, Annual appraisal

Activities:

  • Lead on the planning and delivery of NTS activities, under the Supervision CoO, and ensure that NTS activities are conducted in compliance with National Mine Action Standards and HI’s Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Support induction and training of new NTS team members
  • Collect and analyses existing desktop and secondary data prior to conducting NTS tasks.
  • With the NTS team, gather geographic, socio-economic and impact information on explosive ordnance-affected communities
  • Lead on implementing pre and post intervention surveys to measure the impact of HI’s mine action activities on targeted communities
  • Act as the main focal point with community representatives for the planning and monitoring of NTS activities.
  • Establish and maintain a wide information network including authorities, communities, NGOs, and other possible sources of information
  • Support the Land Release operations by assuming the community liaison meetings.
  • Support CoO by gather needed info and data on contaminated areas for writing proposal purposes.
  • Assume any other duties as directed by the Line Manager.  

Responsibility 2: Reporting

Aim:    deliver efficient and accurate NTS reports.

Benchmarks: Quality of reports, Satisfaction of direct line manager, LMAC acceptance.

Activities:

  • Keep accurate records of daily activities, the team’s outputs and beneficiaries reached using standard reporting formats, according to HI procedures.
  • Prepare all NTS reports to assigned tasks (cancellation, CHA, SHA, Completion,.)
  • Submit NTS reports to LMAC via IMSMA CORE and different means.
  • Report issues faced during project implementation to the Project Manager/CoO
  • Document success stories and lessons learned for development of donor reports and case studies.

  • Any other duties as directed by the Line Manager Prepare the daily, weekly, monthly report and the report per task and deliver them to the COP;
  • Assume any other duties as directed by the Line Manager.

 

Responsibility 3: Team management

Aim: Manage the NTS team and ensure the efficiency of their results

Benchmarks: Smooth team management; no management issues, satisfaction of line manager

Activities:

  • Ensures a good communication, coordination and information of each member of the team and other colleagues, through regular team meetings and proper/relevant information sharing
  • Oversees team’s planning (action plans, leaves planning, weekly movement plan, etc.)
  • Supports and builds the capacity of the colleagues under his/her management, and assesses the needs for additional training
  • Ensures that appraisals of the employees are done according to the HR procedures and is aware of the professional evolution of each staff member, and its development within the mission
  • Ensure conflict resolution (personal and professional) within the team and informs the supervisor when necessary

 

Note that this job description must remain flexible, to respond to additional tasks or changes as identified by the line manager.

Education:

  • Essential:  BA University degree

Experience:

  • Essential: Minimum 1 year of Experience in mine action,
  • Desirable: previous experience in Non-Technical Survey (NTS).
  • Essential: Technical Proficiency: Proficient in the use of ARG GIS for map drawing, compass handling, GPS navigation, and digital cameras for accurate data capture and mapping.
  • Desirable: IMSMA CORE Knowledge: Experienced in using IMSMA CORE for data entry, analysis, and reporting, contributing to effective information management.
  • Desirable: Survey & Topography Knowledge: Solid understanding of topographical mapping, with the ability to conduct thorough surveys and analyze data accurately.
  • Desirable: Standards Compliance: Knowledgeable in International and National Mine Action Standards, particularly regarding Land Release operations and methodologies.

Skills:

  • Good communication skills and mastery of interview techniques.
  • Good analysis skills to ensure the analysis of data collected
  • Good writing skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Experience and willingness to work in the field.

Basic salary ranges for the position: NTS TL is going to be paid according to the experience and to HI salary Grid.

Basic Salary  starting 1,250 USD
