Nutrition Head of Project

Action against Hunger is an international non-governmental, private, apolitical, non-religious and non-profit organization created in 1979. Its goal is to combat hunger and dangerous situations that threaten men, women, and children. Currently 500 expats and more than 5,000 employees are working for Action against Hunger in more than forty-six countries working in projects concerning four areas of focus: nutrition, health, food security and water and sanitation. 

In Lebanon, the Syrian crisis continues to generate political, social, and economic pressure due to the war in Lebanon and keeps more than 1.5 million refugees in a situation of increasing vulnerability. In this environment of political, economic and social uncertainty, our teams have maintained their high levels of humanitarian response and aid to Lebanon. Likewise, our interventions have been maintained in the Bekaa and northern areas, as well as in the south of the country, with a special focus on working in partnership or in consortium with other organizations and on institutional strengthening of the relationship with both donors. institutional, such as with local authorities and entities.

 

Objective 1: To ensure timely and quality implementation of the nutrition project at base level (50%)

1. Prepare and update the project workplan, in coordination with the project team, MEAL team, and support departments, to make sure that project activities and objectives are met.

2. To support the Program Manager (PM) in design of the beneficiary selection process.

3. To monitor the field staff especially in the day-to-day field activities, beneficiary selection process, target achievements, reporting, referral pathway, and to actively support the whole process.

4. Plan and supervise all the qualitative assessments, and surveys planned during the project timeframe.

5. Provide guidance to the project teams in weekly planning of activities (input distribution, trainings, set up, maintenance, monitoring, reporting, etc.) and to ensure these plans are in line with project workplan.

6. Plan and collect systematically the means of verification for the project (attendance sheets, distribution list of beneficiaries, etc.)

7. Be responsible for the design and specifications for nutrition and health interventions and materials, in coordination with the PM at base level as well as the Nutrition and Health Coordinator.

8. Ensure proper management of actions and activities.

9. Guarantee a close follow-up of the project activities with the field team, conduct regular field visits, provide supportive supervision, and give constructive feedback based on the supervision checklist tool. 

10. Be responsible for the technical follow-up of the activities and compliance with Action Against Hunger and sectorial standards.

11. Flag to her/his line manager delays or deviation on the activities.

12. Prepare project materials alongside with the teams, such as IEC, training modules, workshops, etc.

13. Participate in project kick-off, and contribute to mid-term and final review meetings, in collaboration with the Program manager.

14. Plan and organize other project requirements such as communication and visibility.

15. To provide verbal and written reports on the activities, including challenges, lessons learned and best practices, to the PM on the agreed frequency.

16. Actively participate in budget follow up meetings with the PM.

17. Follow-up the MEAL plan and project indicators, in coordination with MEAL Department.

Objective 2: Team Management and capacity building (30%)

1. Divide the tasks and responsibilities between team members according to programmes’ needs, including delegation systems.

2. Ensure that responsibilities and functional relations are clear within the team and regularly revised.

3. In collaboration with HR Department, ensure the follow-up of the leaves and working hours of the team members.

4. Follow-up and evaluate staff performance.

5. Support the staff under line management in developing project planning, weekly planning, monthly planning.

6. Identify training needs and gaps within the team.

7. Ensure staff recruitment, induction and integration.

8. Ensure staff capacity development according to the programmes and staff needs (training plan, capacity development plan, etc.).

9. Provide regular coaching and feedback sessions, with adequate updates on progress against development plan and new objectives.

Objective 3: Reporting (5%)

1. Determine reporting processes with the field team (weekly and monthly).

2. Ensure technical reporting of the activities.

3. Provide verbal and written reports (APR and donor reports) to the line manager and Nutrition and Health Coordinator.

4. Report possible problems or conflict during the activities.

Objective 4: Finance and Logistics (10%)

1. Ensure a proper forecast and budget follow-up of the project, in close coordination with the Logistics and Admin Department.

2. Flag any deviation to the line manager, and propose solutions.

3. Supervise specific project(s) budget forecast & follow up and Participate in the design of new budget.

4. Ensure timely procurement of goods and services for the project, according to the procurement plan.

5. Work in close collaboration with the Logistics Department to identify suppliers and follow-up the contracts.

6. Ensure close follow-up of the procurements with Logistics team, through regular meeting and data record.

7. Flag any issues with supplier (quality of the service and respecting the clauses of the contract) to the line manager and Logistics.

8. Update the procurement plan in collaboration with the Logistics Department.

9. Use the internal tools and processes for procurement and stock follow-up.

10. Prepare the weekly transportation request and planning for her/his team.

Objective 5: Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning of the project (5%)

1. Follow-up the MEAL plan and project indicators, in close coordination with MEAL Department.

2. Keep updated the beneficiary list and other project database.

3. Support the staff under line management in integrating MEAL activities.

4. Ensure proper communication of the hotline and feedback mechanisms.

5. Use the internal processes for referral and follow-up, in collaboration with MEAL team.

6. Encourage and train the field team to ensure accountability towards beneficiaries.

Security

1. Respect the security rules specified in the mission and base security plan, ensure that the team under his/her responsibility complies with the security plan and perform the security management tasks that can be assigned in its protocols.

2. Communicate to the security manager of the working location any security related information or noncompliance with the security plan.

3. Report on any security incident to the security manager.

Objective 6: Support humanitarian activities of Action Against Hunger 

1. Support the emergency interventions of the organization as per the employee’s abilities;

2. Support any activity that helps reaching our humanitarian goals, as per the employee’s abilities;

3. Contribute to the implementation of the gender and protection action plan.

4. To uphold the Core Humanitarian Principles of humanity, impartiality, independence and neutrality and the Action Against Hunger Code of Conduct

Objective 7: Gender & Safeguarding (cross-cutting)

1. Promote safe and equitable environments, through knowledge and application of the protocol against harassment and gender policy.

2.Knowledge and compliance with safeguarding policy.

3.Promote gender equality within the humanitarian and/or development work.
