Role purpose
The nutritionist will be performing specialized duties related to family health and nutrition, especially children, permanent and lactating women. He/She will help participants to make healthy nutritionist choices – including plan for pregnant and lactating women, and for infant and young child feeding (IYCF) – weight management and malnutrition/hain weight.
The nutritionist will also be responsible for identifying malturition cases and refer them to specialized services and PHCs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct filed visit for families to ensure that target is reaching the most vulnerable beneficiaries.
- Collect information regarding nutrition situation and needs of beneficiaries.
- Assist and evaluate beneficiaries’ health to identify malnutrition cases especially among women, lactating women and children.
- Responsible on assessing IYCF, nutrition and care practice among beneficiaries in targeted community.
- Conduct and engage in nutrition and health education to ensure promotion of positive healthcare behaviors including maternal and child health.
- Refer identified cases to PHC and follow up as needed.
- Support beneficiaries, especially pregnant woman and children, with nutrition education.
- Develop nutrition plans that addresses the health needs of the beneficiaries.
- Work closely with team member to organize, implement and promote awareness session for targeted beneficiaries.
- Track beneficiaries progress and adjust nutrition plan as necessary.
- Submit weekly and monthly report on collected information regarding nutrition situation and needs.
- Guidance families on nutrition principles, including reading food labels, healthy eating habits, healthy foods on specific budget.
- Assess beneficiaries eating habits and physical activities to determine needed areas of improvement and develop plan accordingly.
- Provide support to beneficiaries with chronic illness such as diabetes by managing the nutrition plan and eating habits.
- Reporting and monitoring:
- Develop weekly plans and provide reports as needed.
- Report any challenges faced through the implementation process and provide possible solution.
- File, document and report work the project coordinator.
- Ensure that all activities are documented and tracked.
- Collect needed data
- Coordinate with MEAL department for data validation, analyzing and reporting.
- Participate in coordination meeting as required.
Skills/ Qualifications/ Experience
Education
- Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science or a related field
Experience
- At least 3 years of experience in nutrition programs
- Experience in field work and community mobilization
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English
- Training facilitation
- Computer skills
- Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours, and capability to work in insecure environment.
- Experience working in the field, working in Akkar and with vulnerable communities in specific is a plus.
Skills
- Excellent writing and speaking skills in English required.
- Excellent ability to communicate via written products, oral communications, presentation and public speaking skills required;
- Strong, developed leadership ability, and effective project and staff management skills required;
- Diplomatic and highly effective on an interpersonal level, with a high degree of cross cultural sensitivity;
- Self-starter, proactive, able to juggle competing work streams and deadlines, productive under pressure;
- Able to absorb large volumes of information quickly in fluid situations, highly organized and analytical thinker;
- Creative problem-solver, and adept at working with teams to deliver on client requests;
- Willingness to travel extensively and in locations with limited amenities.
