Community Midwife

  • Under the supervision of MdM Outreach Supervisor and SRH advisor, the community midwife will be trained on more advanced level of health awareness (MISP, counselling), identification of cases for referral to the PHCC and defaulter cases. She/he will be supported by MdM medical team.  The community midwife will also undergo regular training focused on the safe handling of GBV disclosures with trauma-informed, confidential, and sensitive approaches, and to guide survivors to the PHCC social worker when available, or to the most accessible case management actors, ensuring quick access to support. 

The community midwife will implement outreach activities 5 days per week. She/he will support COVs in their activities in or outside the shelters, rotating within COVs’ activity location. She/he will support COVs for some of the specific health awareness sessions.

                

Main responsibilities:

 

  • Carry out sexual and reproductive health and Rights (SRHR) awareness and orientation to necessary PHC services  

 

Main Activities:

 

  • The community midwife will identify and refer UTIs cases to PSU or PHCC for treatment. 
  • If a safe space is available and/or confidentiality guaranteed, she will also flag and refer STIs cases, and will provide emergency contraception and offer adapted counselling as needed. 
  • To ensure a regular follow-up and counselling for pregnant women 
  • To facilitate the timely referral of pregnant women to PHCC for the necessary 4 ANC and 2 PNC consultations and support IYCF.  
  • To reinforce GBV-specific information given by COVs and equip individuals with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their safety.  
  • To provide general mental health awareness on normal reactions to stress, on general self-care practices during the crisis, and on the safe referral of people in need of more specialized care 
  • To facilitate culturally sensitive group sessions on SRH for women and girls, covering topics such as family planning, reproductive health, STI prevention and management, and communication in relationships to strengthen awareness on SRH self-care practices and services beyond pregnancy-related care distribution of SRH-related materials like emergency contraception, condoms, and menstrual hygiene kits. 
  • To provide health awareness, including SRH, active nutrition screening, vaccination and communicable diseases surveillance. 
  • To support safe referral to appropriate specialized care.  
  • To support COVs with referrals to health services and provide PFA to link displaced people with the service they need and provide supportive and practical assistance to distressed people in a respectful way 
  • Provision of menstrual hygiene kits in/out the shelters  
  • Dissemination of IEC materials in and outside the shelters 
  • To identify and analyse barriers for access to appropriate specialized care and collaborate with MdM specialized staff to pilot strategies to overcome these barriers, taking into account cultural sensitivity and context. 
  • Participate in need assessments in collaboration with the MEAL department to track evolving needs and gaps

Requested Competence/skills:

 

  • BS in Midwifery  
  • Licensed to practice from the MOPH and affiliated with the Lebanese Order of midwives 
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with an NGO or INGO  
  • Strong experience related to primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health 
  • Experience in SRHR and knowledge of national obstetric and newborn protocol 
  • Experience in S/GBV management and referral pathways 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: maintain a transparent, honest and supportive communication structure within a team 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft word and excel. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 
  • Good level in spoken and written Arabic and English
  • Autonomy, motivation, punctuality, flexibility, honesty and calm
