Role Overview
The Retention Support Program aims to provide tailored educational support to students aged 13-17 years from refugee and host communities. The program focuses on strengthening foundational knowledge, ensuring student retention in the education system, and preparing learners for formal education pathways. This initiative requires experienced and dedicated subject teachers who are passionate about empowering youth through education. Borderless NGO, a pioneer in supporting underserved communities, leads this initiative with a commitment to inclusivity, quality education, and sustainable impact.
Role and Responsibilities
Subject teachers will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing lessons in their specific subject area, ensuring that all students actively participate and progress in their learning. Responsibilities include:
1. Lesson Planning and Delivery
- Develop and implement detailed weekly and monthly lesson plans aligned with the program's curriculum framework, including clear objectives, learning outcomes, and required materials.
- Adapt lesson plans to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, including those with learning challenges.
- Utilize diverse teaching strategies, including interactive, student-centered, and practical approaches such as group discussions, project-based learning, and experiential activities.
- Incorporate technology and innovative tools, such as digital platforms, educational apps, and multimedia resources, to enhance lesson delivery and engagement.
2. Assessment and Monitoring
- Design and administer various formative and summative assessments (e.g., quizzes, presentations, assignments) to evaluate student understanding and track progress.
- Maintain detailed records of student performance, including attendance, participation, and achievement levels.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and parents or guardians to support continuous improvement.
- Identify students who require additional support and collaborate with the program team to implement tailored intervention plans.
3. Classroom Management
- Establish a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that promotes active participation, critical thinking, and mutual respect.
- Implement behavior management strategies to address issues constructively while fostering accountability and self-discipline among students.
- Ensure adherence to the program’s rules and guidelines while promoting a culture of learning and respect.subject teachers to design interdisciplinary projects and learning opportunities that enrich the educational experience.
- Actively participate in team meetings, professional development workshops, and strategy sessions.
- Submit detailed lesson plans, attendance records, and progress reports to the Program Coordinator within specified deadlines.
5. Capacity Building and Mentorship
- Mentor students to enhance their study habits, problem-solving skills, and academic performance through personalized guidance.
- Organize small group sessions or one-on-one tutorials for students needing additional assistance.
- Act as a role model, fostering resilience, confidence, and a love for learning among students.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or relevant subject area (Math, English, Arabic, or Science).
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably with students aged 13-17 years from vulnerable backgrounds.
- Strong understanding of curriculum development, teaching methodologies, and student assessment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in written and spoken [insert language(s) required], with strong report-writing abilities.
Desirable:
- Experience in working with refugee or underserved populations.
- Familiarity with non-formal education settings and challenges in such contexts.
- Training in psychosocial support, inclusive education, or trauma-informed teaching practices.
