Digital Learning Officer - Akkar

The Digital Learning Officer will ensure the smooth implementation, management, and maintenance of digital learning programs and devices across assigned Makani centers and Dirasa schools in North and Akkar. The role involves overseeing educational applications, user management, and hardware functionality, while liaising with key stakeholders to achieve program objectives.  He/She will work closely with the Field Education Senior Officer, partners, and Monitoring and Evaluation team. The position will be under the supervision of the Senior Education Officer.

 

Major Responsibilities

Digital Learning/ Education focal point:

  • Implement and oversee the digital learning program across assigned centers or schools. 
  • Stay informed on developments in learning applications and their educational use. 
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of devices, including serial numbers, IDs, and condition status. 
  • Monitor device maintenance and ensure operational readiness. 
  • Verify the consistent execution of digital learning sessions (minimum two sessions per week). 
  • Prepare and share monthly progress reports, highlighting challenges and updates with UNICEF’s Digital Learning Officer. 
  • Manage user accounts for Akelius and Learning Passport (LP), ensuring teacher and student needs are addressed. 
  • Provide UNICEF with an updated Excel list of LP users, including first names, last names, and year of birth. 
  • Create and manage a single Gmail account for device tracking and performance monitoring. 
  • Report updates on user accounts, program implementation, and device conditions regularly. 
  • Receive, set up, and configure tablets, ensuring the operating system is updated. 
  • Assign unique ID numbers to devices, label each tablet for easy tracking, and maintain an Excel inventory file. 
  • Install and update required learning platforms, including Akelius and Learning Passport. 
  • Set up Akelius classroom servers, generate QR codes for students, and provide printed records for reference. 
  • Train students and teachers on QR code login processes. 
  • Manage tablet rotation safely and store devices in secure locations equipped with charging stations. 
  • Ensure tablets are adequately charged (minimum 50%) and functional for use. 
  • Check and maintain charging cords and other accessories when charging stations are unavailable. 
  • Develop a booking system for tablet usage and reserve Language Lab access in advance. 
  • Establish procedures for moving tablets between storage and classrooms securely. 
  • Maintain a logbook to track tablet borrowing, noting dates, times, and quantities. 
  • Regularly clean tablet screens and check for proper functioning of covers, protectors, and headsets. 
  • Report any damages or issues to the Digital Learning Focal Point and UNICEF, and coordinate repairs. 
  • Conduct monthly inventory checks to identify missing or deteriorated equipment. 
  • Install and configure "AppLock" to restrict unauthorized access or app installations.

Indirect Reporting: Field Education Manager

Internal: different programme sectors

External: partner, and other NGOs working in education in Akkar

 

Job Requirements:

  • Familiarity with educational technology platforms (e.g., Akelius, Learning Passport).
  • BS in IT, computer Science or any relevant experience in Information Technology. 
  • Experience in inventory management and device setup. 
  • Ability to train and guide students in digital tools usage. 
  • Effective communication and reporting skills. 
  • Problem-solving skills to address technical and logistical challenges.
  • Strong organizational and technical skills.
  • Experience in working with refugee communities in Lebanon.
  • Experience in working in partnerships is a plus.
  • Working experience in NGOs and/or INGOs is a must.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French is mandatory.
  • Autonomy and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility, commitment, work ethics and team spirit
  • Facilitation and capacity building experience and skills
     

Travel and other requirements: The position will be based in Akkar, with ongoing field visits to Akkar and North and some travel required between Beirut and North governorates.
