Livelihoods Civil Engineer - North

Position Summary:

The Sustainable Fodder Production for Livestock Resilience in Akkar project, funded by the UN World Food Program and implemented by Relief International (RI), aims to enhance the resilience and livelihoods of small-scale livestock farmers in Akkar., North Lebanon. The project focuses on improving fodder production through land reclamation, developing irrigation infrastructure, and introducing high-nutritious animal feed and climate-resilient fodder crops. It also promotes gender equity and economic inclusion. 

Key responsibilities  

1-Land Reclamation:  

  • Conduct site assessments to analyze soil quality, topography, and erosion patterns to determine project feasibility.  
  • Design and manage the implementation of land grading, leveling, and drainage systems to enhance agricultural use.  
  • Develop and execute plans to restore degraded lands and improve soil fertility through sustainable practices.  

2-Water Harvesting Ponds:  

  • Design water harvesting ponds that comply with hydrological and structural standards, ensuring effective runoff management and water conservation.  
  • Calculate water storage capacity, catchment areas, and runoff dynamics to optimize system efficiency.  
  • Supervise the construction, maintenance, and improvement of water harvesting systems, addressing issues such as seepage and erosion.   

3-Technical Support and Supervision: 

  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities (BoQs) to guide project execution.  
  • Support the contractor selection process and provide necessary technical tools and documentation.  
  • Supervise contractors and construction teams to ensure project quality, safety, and adherence to timelines.  
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, resolve challenges, and ensure compliance with project objectives  
  • Regularly monitoring the field activities to ensure all implemented activities are aligned with the action plan and standards agreed on and highlight any significant deviance.   

4-Collaboration and Reporting: 

  • Work closely with the donor’s environmental/Civil specialists, agronomists, and community stakeholders. 
  • Work closely with environmental specialists, agronomists, donors, and community stakeholders to align engineering activities with broader project goals.  
  • Prepare detailed reports, including progress updates, cost analyses, and impact assessments, for submission to stakeholders.  
  • Provide technical training to local communities on sustainable land and water management practices to ensure long-term project success.  

5-Compliance and Safety: 

  • Ensure all projects adhere to local laws, environmental regulations, and safety standards.  
  • Promote and implement best practices for resource-efficient, eco-friendly, and climate-resilient construction techniques.  

6-Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor to contribute to program success.
