Respiratory Therapist

Association des Jeunes Islamiques (ADJI) is a leading non-profit rehabilitation center in Lebanon. Established in 1997, the organization is dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitation services—including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychosocial support—to vulnerable individuals such as persons with disabilities (PwDs), children with disabilities (CwDs), and elderly individuals.

As part of its commitment to integrity and ethical conduct,   ADJI enforces a zero-tolerance policy on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) and requires all staff to adhere to the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Code of Conduct.

 ADJI is currently implementing a Comprehensive Rehabilitation, Secondary Healthcare, and Protection Services Project in North Lebanon, delivering services through its central rehabilitation center in Tripoli as well as through mobile and home-based care initiatives.

Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for delivering specialized respiratory care to vulnerable individuals in North Lebanon. This role involves assessing patients’ respiratory status, planning and implementing individualized respiratory therapy interventions, and educating patients and caregivers on respiratory care and self-management strategies. The Respiratory Therapist will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Respiratory Care

Assess patients’ respiratory status through clinical evaluations and diagnostic tools.

Develop individualized treatment plans for patients with respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and other pulmonary disorders.

Administer respiratory therapy interventions, including nebulization, oxygen therapy, chest physiotherapy, airway clearance techniques, and ventilator management when applicable.

Monitor patients during therapy sessions, adjusting interventions based on patient response and clinical guidelines.

Patient & Caregiver Education

Provide guidance on respiratory care techniques, self-management strategies, and proper use of respiratory equipment.

Conduct awareness sessions for caregivers and patients to reinforce best practices in managing respiratory conditions.

Data Collection & Reporting

Maintain comprehensive patient records, documenting assessments, treatment plans, and progress.

Participate in Functional Independence Evaluations (FIEs) to measure the impact of respiratory therapy interventions.

Collaboration & Coordination

Work closely with the rehabilitation team—including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and social workers—to ensure holistic patient care.

Refer patients for secondary healthcare interventions when additional medical support is needed.

Support community mobilizers in the identification and assessment of beneficiaries requiring respiratory care.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field from an accredited institution.

Minimum 2-3 years of experience in respiratory therapy, preferably in healthcare or humanitarian settings.

Experience working with vulnerable populations, including persons with disabilities and elderly individuals.

Proficient in patient assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of respiratory care interventions.

Fluency in Arabic; knowledge of English and/or French.

Competencies & Skills

Compassion and patience when working with patients facing respiratory challenges.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective engagement with patients and caregivers.

Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multicultural environment.

Flexibility and adaptability to work in mobile or home-based settings.

Excellent organizational and documentation skills to track patient progress and support project M&E.
