UNV Digital Media Translator/Editor – Arabic

Assignment Context:
The UN Volunteer will be based at the UNEP Office in Beirut and work under the supervision of the Regional Communications officer. The role of the UN Volunteer is that of an expert in translations from English to Arabic and a digital specialist in both web and social media.  

Task description:
The UN Volunteer will perform the following functions:

Web
- Ensures relevant content, such as stories, press releases, select speeches and publications, is translated from English to Arabic and posted in a timely manner;
- Proofreads all content posted on the Arabic language website;
- Updates content on UNEP Arabic website.

Social Media
- Carries out social media strategy and execution plans for Arabic-speaking audiences;
- Translates social media content from English to Arabic, including videos and graphics;
- Maintains UNEP Arabic language social media channels, posting relevant and timely content and engaging with Arabic-speaking audiences;
- Promotes UNEP’s work and messages to Arabic language stakeholders via support to communications and outreach activities;
- Reviews statistics and analytics and adjusts/adapts content strategy to maximize reach.

Support
- Support requests from Executive Director related to Arabic-language audiences and her official travel;
- Stay abreast of rapidly changing technological advancements related to digital platforms and translation methods;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Arabic, Level: Fluent, Required
English, Level: Fluent, Required

Required Experience:
• Excellent knowledge of social media and how to use it for strategic communication;
• Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team;
• Excellent organisational and planning skills. Proven ability to multitask and work successfully in a fast-paced environment, delivering desired results on deadline;
• Proven ability to generate innovative solutions;
• Languages and other skills;
• Outstanding Arabic writing and editing skills;
• Full command of English is essential;
• Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.

Living conditions and remarks
As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in UN house, Beirut, Lebanon. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
