Introduction about MSF:
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / أطباء بلا حدود is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people in 70 countries who are affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation and our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality.
We offer basic healthcare, perform surgery, fight epidemics, rehabilitate and run hospitals and clinics, carry out vaccination campaigns, operate nutrition centers, and provide mental healthcare. Our activities include the treatment of injuries and disease, maternal care and the provision of humanitarian aid. Where necessary, we set up sanitation systems, supply safe drinking water, and distribute relief to assist survival.
Main Objective of the position:
Providing nursing care, treatment and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.
Accountabilities:
- Knowing, promoting, implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respecting medical secrets and confidentiality at all times.
- Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and assisting during consultations, daily rounds and other medical procedures. Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
- Identifying Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they can receive the necessary treatment. Knowing and is aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit
- Ensuring patients are properly received and installed and that those with lack of autonomy are assisted, especially regarding their feeding, personal hygiene, movements and comfort. For ER and OPD nurse, ensuring triage of patients in waiting areas, wards or during emergencies, detecting the priority acute/emergency cases, carrying out first aid care and referring them to the doctor when necessary
- Sending material to be sterilized and recuperates it from sterilization
- Carrying out admission, surveillance and follow-up of patients (i.e. assessment of the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency situation or deterioration
- Carrying and supervising administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations and cases that may arise. Participating in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed.
- Participating in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover ensuring no material is taken out of nursing area/wards without prior authorisation, etc.)
- Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
- Supervising and training nurse-aids, nutritional assistants, cleaners and other related staff under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures.
MSF Context Specific Accountabilities:
- The nurse will work flexibly across MSF clinics in Beirut, providing comprehensive nursing care in line with project needs. This includes triaging patients, supporting medical consultations, managing vaccinations, providing wound and home care, conducting psychiatric follow-ups, and coordinating referrals and hospitalizations.
- Prioritizing and managing patients based on severity, starting treatment for "red" category patients according to guidelines.
- Overseeing nursing room stock, conducting inventories, and reporting consumption with the Nursing Team Supervisor.
- Coordinating patient admissions liaise with hospitals and the Red Cross for transport and following up on hospitalizations.
- Documenting referral activities and ensuring timely updates on patient progress.
- Ensuring psychiatric patients follow prescribed medications and attend appointments. Responding to psychiatric emergencies and collaborating with the psychologist for ongoing care. Assisting with patient transportation and follow-up visits if needed.
- Following MSF's Wound Care Protocol, ensuring proper treatment, hygiene, and infection control.
- Providing care for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), ensuring their health needs are met.
- Administering vaccinations according to the MOPH schedule, monitoring for side effects, and managing cold chain protocols.
- Educating patients about side effects and tracking vaccination activities for reporting.
- Ensuring proper storage and usage of medications, conducting regular inventory checks, and reporting any supply issues. Monitoring and reporting any cold chain temperature issues.
- The nurse must be adaptable to clinic needs, support various teams as required, and ensure continuity of patient care across MSF clinics.
Requirements:
Education
Essential:
- Nursing diploma or Technical Diploma (LT = license technique and accomplishment of 3 years minimum education).
- MoPH’s license to practice in Lebanon.
- Certificate of registration at the Order of Nurses in Lebanon
Experience
Essential:
- 2 years of previous experience in a similar position.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in humanitarian organizations.
- Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting
Languages
- Essential: Full Proficiency in Arabic and English.
Knowledge
- Expertise in triage, emergency care, laboratory procedures, and wound care management.
- Adherence to nursing guidelines, universal hygiene standards, and infection control measures.
- Ability to educate patients and caregivers about medical procedures, treatments, and follow-ups.
