Position Title: Senior Accountant
Reports to: Finance & Compliance Manager
Location: Lebanon
Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing financial transactions, ensuring compliance with donor and organizational regulations, preparing financial reports and supporting audits. This role involves managing grants financials, supervising accounting processes, and providing technical support to the accounting team. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity and supporting Anera’s mission through strong accounting management.
Success in this position requires an individual good demonstrate excellent organizational skills and an attention to detail. This position requires a proficient understanding of accounting principles and the ability to communicate complex quantitative data to decision-makers.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Accounting
- Oversee and maintain accurate financial records in compliance with the accounting standards and Anera’s accounting manual.
- Review and process journal entries, bank reconciliations and financial closings.
- Supervise accounts payables and ensure timely payments
- Ensure proper allocation of expenses to relevant grants and funding resources.
Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the tracking of projects expenditures and ensure costs are properly allocated to the correct funding sources
- Work closely with program and project teams to ensure accurate financial documentation and reporting
- Assist in providing budget versus actual reports for assigned projects to help in the financial analysis and supporting decision-making and program implementation.
Compliance & Audit
- Support in internal andProvides external audits by preparing financial records and responding to auditors inquiries.
- Maintain and update financial policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls
Grant & Donor Fund Management
- Work Closely with program teams to provide financial guidance on grant management
- Prepare internal financial reports and ensure timely submission
Leadership & Capacity Building:
- Supervise and mentor accountants and provide training as needed
- Support the Finance & Compliance Manager in developing financial policies and improving accounting systems
- Collaborate with program and operations teams to strengthen financial awareness capacity
Other Responsibilities
- Assist in system improvements and automation of financial processes
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Finance & Compliance Manager
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. A CPA, ACCA, or CMA certification is a plus.
- Minimum 7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in an INGO or nonprofit setting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and donor financial regulations.
- Experience handling multi-currency transactions and international financial reporting.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work in a multicultural environment.
- Proficient computer skills to include Google Platform
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
- Knowledge of tax laws and compliance requirements in Lebanon.
- Strong attention to detail, integrity, and professionalism.
- Collaborative interpersonal skills and customer service skills
- Proficient written and oral communication skills
- Language Requirement: Fluency in Arabic and English is required (both written and spoken)
