Consultancy to Review and Strengthen Leadership of Peacebuilding Curricula - YMCA Lebanon – We'am Project

1. Background

The Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) of Lebanon has a strong legacy in peacebuilding, and youth empowerment. Through initiatives like Building Bridges, YMCA has effectively promoted intercultural dialogue, non-violent communication, and conflict transformation among diverse communities.

The We'am Project, funded by Oxfam GB  seeks to address key social tensions in Lebanon, including sectarian divisions, political polarization, youth exclusion, and refugee-host community conflicts. The project is implemented with participants from Baalbeck-Hermel, Beirut, and Mount Lebanon through three progressive phases:

  1. Phase 1: Peacebuilding Competencies
  2. Phase 2: Leadership for Peacebuilding
  3. Phase 3: Civic Engagement & Community Initiatives

2. Purpose of the Consultancy

YMCA Lebanon seeks a qualified consultant to conduct a comprehensive review of both Phase 1 (Peacebuilding Competencies) and Phase 2 (Leadership for Peacebuilding) curricula to ensure:

  • Strong alignment between both phases and logical progression to Phase 3
  • Consistency with We'am Project objectives
  • Integration of best practices in conflict transformation and youth leadership
  • Readiness of We'am staff to implement any curriculum revisions

3. Scope of Work

The consultant will:

  • Conduct a detailed review of the existing "Leadership for Peacebuilding" curriculum, assessing:
    • Relevance to Lebanon’s conflict context (sectarian, political, refugee-related tensions).
    • Logical progression from Phase 1 (Peacebuilding Competencies) to Phase 3 (Civic Engagement).
    • Coverage of conflict analysis, peacebuilding concepts, and leadership skills.
    • Use of participatory, gender-sensitive, and inclusive methodologies.
  • Engage in consultations with YMCA We’am project staff and present the findings for review and feedback.
  • Incorporating agreed changes and develop additional sessions/modules if needed.
  • Conduct a training session for We’am staff to ensure understanding, and build capacity for implementation.

4. Expected Deliverables

  1. Revised Phase 1- 2  Curricula with improvements
  2. Newly Developed Sessions (if gaps identified)
  3. Staff Training Session on curriculum changes
  4. Final Report with Summary of changes, Justification for key revisions, and recommendation

5. Consultant Qualifications

  • Degree in education, social work or related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in peacebuilding curriculum development
  • Strong knowledge of Lebanon's conflict context
  • Experience with  YMCA programs (preferred)
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills
  • Fluency in English and Arabic

6. Timeline

The consultancy is expected to be completed within 30 working days from contract signing.

7. Reporting

The consultant will report to YMCA Lebanon's Operations Manager  and work closely with the We'am Project team.
