About the Program:

In 2018, the Civil Society Empowerment Program was launched within “Basmeh & Zeitooneh”. Since then, this program has evolved into its current form as a specialized unit for civil society empowerment. This development stems from our deep belief in the crucial role of civil society in driving communities toward progress across social, economic, political, cultural, and environmental domains—anchored in strong foundations such as freedom, democracy, and pluralism. Since the early days of establishing this unit, we have continued to develop our work and actively engage with other civil society organizations, guided by our core values of human rights, nonviolence, citizenship, and gender justice.

The Civil Society Empowerment Unit is human-centered that views people as “sustainable capital”, placing them at the heart of all our activities and strategies. The unit was founded with the aim of strengthening civil society capacities and supporting civic space. It strives to create a societal impact that contributes to building a civil system based on partnership, participation, and solidarity, ensuring human dignity and rights. We are committed to adopting a sustainable approach to capacity development, driven by innovation and continuous improvement. Our goal is to create and mobilize resources while transforming acquired expertise into accessible and non-monopolized knowledge and skills. This, in turn, enhances the ability of all civil society actors to drive positive change.
