PRESENTATION OF THE ORGANIZATION

 

SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian NGO which, for more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their vital needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly involved in the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the first cause of death in the world, SI's interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in around twenty countries, SI's teams - 2000 people in total made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at headquarters, and a few volunteers - work with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultures.

 

Solidarités International (SI) is determined to prevent and fight all type of abuse – all act of exploitation, abuse and/or sexual harassment (SEAH) against members of beneficiary communities or collaborators, fraud, corruption, violation of persons and/or property, funding of activities harmful to human rights – that could be perpetrated in the frame of its interventions. DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION

General objective:

 

Under the authority of the implementation Deputy program manager and/or Team leader the field officer will be responsible for:

  • Implementing the activities and meeting the objectives as defined in the operation proposals through the line manager
  • Report the complete community engagement activities to the line manager
  • Refer all the needs within the referral mechanism or internally within the team through a formal way
  • Ensuring that all relations with the staff, managers and communities we work with are conducted in a respectful and consultative manner
  • Sharing ideas for improving the work with the line manager
  • Ensure the timely implementation of the WASH & Shelter activities, that SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL’s quality standards are met and proposes adjustments or developments to ensure relevance if necessary
  • Representing Solidarites International in donor visits and external training
  • To enhance access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in informal settlements by effectively distributing hygiene kits and conducting targeted awareness sessions, thereby reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and improving overall public health.

 

 

The main challenges:

 

  1. Participate in distribution of hygiene items for Informal settelements and collect the needed information
  2. Draft the request to the line manager and data entry for the distribution receiptient.
  3. Ensure communication among different departments with SI and ensure all the team have close coordination
  4. Community Engagement: Building trust and encouraging participation among diverse populations in informal settlements.

 

 

 

Priorities for the 2/3 first months:

  • Assessment & planning: Conduct rapid needs assessments to identify target groups and specific WASH needs.
  • Develop a detailed distribution plan for hygiene kits, considering population density and vulnerability
  • Participate in the distribution and solving issue during distribution
  • Ensure good communication with the targeted beneficiairies.
  • Be Involved in the emergency response
  • Develop close collaboration with different departments inside SI

 

Responsibilities and main activities:

  1. The WASH Field Officer is tasked with conducting community assessments, distributing hygiene kits, and leading hygiene promotion sessions in informal settlements. This role involves engaging with community members to identify WASH needs, organizing equitable distribution of hygiene materials, and delivering culturally appropriate hygiene education. The officer is also responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of interventions, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating with local stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of hygiene practices.
  2. Data Management & Reporting: Collect site data, update databases and internal tools, submit daily reports, and ensure proper documentation, including assessments, handovers, referrals, and incident reports.
  3. Community Engagement & Accountability: Ensure respectful and informed engagement with communities, clearly communicating project goals, selection criteria, and activities to beneficiaries.
  4. Contractor Management & Quality Control: Train and supervise contractors, ensure quality service delivery, manage site challenges, and coordinate handovers with quality activity managers.

 

Reporting/Communication

  1. Ensure timely submission of high-quality internal reports, such as weekly updates, progress reports
  2. Maintain clear and regular communication with the line manager and other departments to share updates, identify problems, and coordinate solutions.
  3. Maintain adequate archiving of technical documentation, evaluations, and site monitoring tools for accountability and knowledge management.

PROFILE NEEDED

Studies : Bachelor in Public Health, Social sciences, Education or related fields

Experience :

  1. At least 1-year experience in a similar position, for INGO sector
  2. Proven previous experience in the community engagemnet and emergency intervention
  3. Proven previous experience in emergency water trucking, chlorination, and water quality analysis
  4. Proven previous experience in rapid needs assessments, baseline surveys, and security assessments
  5. Experience in working in a tense security context with strict security rules

 

Language : English & Arabic

 

IT : Familiarity with Microsoft office, Knowledge of data collection tools, Use of communication and collaboration platforms

 

SI WILL OFFER YOU

A salaried post :  1325 USD as basic salary

Vacation : 1.75 paid leave per month
