Social Media Manager - Remotely

Guardians of Equality Movement (GEM) is a Canadian-based human rights organization supporting Syrian LGBTQIA+ individuals, is hiring a Social Media Manager. This remote role (ideal for candidates in the Middle East) involves leading GEM’s social media strategy, creating and publishing content, and promoting the organization’s mission and programs. 

The ideal candidate has experience in digital communications, understands LGBTQIA+ and Syrian contexts, and is fluent in Arabic and English. Passion for human rights and creative storytelling is essential. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Strategize and Create Content: Lead the ideation, creation, and scheduling of compelling content tailored for each of GEM’s social media platforms. 
  • Campaign Development: Design and execute targeted social media campaigns with a focus on expanding reach and engagement, particularly within Syrian communities. 
  • Visual Branding: Establish and maintain a cohesive visual identity across all platforms to strengthen GEM’s brand recognition. 
  • Program and Research Promotion: Effectively promote GEM’s initiatives, services, campaigns, and research publications through engaging digital content. 
  • Platform Management: Manage daily publishing and interaction across Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, Facebook, and other relevant platforms. 
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with team members to brainstorm, plan, and review content strategies that align with organizational goals. 
  • Audience Growth: Implement strategies to boost page visibility, follower growth, and audience interaction. 
  • Content Organization: Develop and maintain a structured content calendar to ensure consistent and timely communication.

    Qualifications 

Education : 

Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field. 

Desirable: 

  • Further qualifications or training in digital marketing, human rights, media ethics, or diversity and inclusion. 
  • Understanding of communications in humanitarian or rights-based settings. 

Professional Experience 

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in social media management, preferably in non-profit, advocacy, or human rights organizations. 
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating social media campaigns. 
  • Strong understanding of social media analytics, growth strategies, and performance tracking. 
  • Familiarity with communication in conflict or post-conflict zones, particularly the Syrian context, is highly desirable. 
  • Experience collaborating with vulnerable communities and/or underrepresented groups (e.g., LGBTQIA+, refugees, trauma survivors) is a plus. 

Languages 

  • Required: Fluency in Arabic and English (oral and written). 
  • Proficiency in French is an asset. 

Technical Skills and Personal Attributes 

  • Strong skills in content creation, visual storytelling, and digital design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite). 
  • Proficient with social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, TikTok. 
  • Familiarity with social media scheduling and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer, Meta Business Suite). 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail and tone. 
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. 
  • Collaborator with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. 
  • Highly organized, initiative-taking, and creative. 
  • Committed to the values of equality, inclusion, and human rights. 
  • Sensitivity to issues related to trauma, privacy, and data protection.
