Call for an Internal governance for Startups Consultant - Agrytech

Context & Background

Berytech is a leading organization in the Entrepreneurial Eco-system in Lebanon, that aims to provide a conducive environment for the creation and development of startups, through incubation, business support, counseling, funding, networking, and the company hosting, hence taking part in the economic revival of the country, participating in wealth and job creation, and retaining graduates and high-level skills in Lebanon.

Through the Agrytech Accelerator Program, startups receive support to develop their Minimum Viable Product, test it with early adopters, and build their capacity to establish their business from marketing, financial, management and operational levels. The Program aims to contribute to job creation and sustainable economic development while advancing the Lebanese entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The Agrytech Accelerator Program's mission is to nurture and grow proof of concepts, and prototypes that share three common characteristics:

  • An innovation with scientific or technological focus in the agri-food sector.
  • The possibility to scale beyond the local market
  • The potential to create sustainable job opportunities locally
Scope of work

The Accelerator Program seeks to equip early-stage startups with the knowledge and tools needed to design effective organizational structures, establish sound internal governance frameworks, build strong leadership teams, and foster a values-aligned company culture that supports sustainable growth. This is to be achieved through a half-day workshop and up to 2 one-on-one sessions for up to 8 startups, based on their needs.

The workshop will cover the following:

Organizational Structure & Team Building

  • Understanding startup team needs across different growth stages.
  • Defining clear roles, responsibilities, and reporting lines.
  • Structuring agility: how to evolve from a flat structure to a more formal hierarchy.
  • Aligning structure with strategy, product type, and growth plans.
  • Identifying and addressing skill gaps within the founding and early teams.
  • Techniques for effective recruitment, onboarding, and team development.
  • Managing co-founder dynamics and succession planning.

Culture and Leadership

  • Identifying core values and integrating them into the organization's culture.
  • Defining the role of founders in shaping and sustaining company culture and fostering an inclusive work environment.
  • Guide the startups to develop strategies and frameworks that balance performance expectations, accountability, and employee wellbeing.

Internal Governance Practices

  • Identify the foundations of governance practices.
  • Best practices for strategies and partnerships, people and resources, technology and IP, processes and accountability.  
  • The difference between the different phases of startup growth and the needed governance level at each phase.
  • How to create a board of advisors and maintain board meetings.
  • How to manage relationships between a company’s management, its board, its shareholders, and other stakeholders.
  • The structure through which the objectives of the company are set, the means of attaining those objectives, and monitoring performance.
Deliverables
  • Workshop Outline and Materials.
  • Training Delivery (Half-day).
  • Conduct 2 one-on-one sessions for up to 8 startups (total up to 16 one-on-one sessions)
  • Provide a report summarizing the outcomes, feedback, and recommendations for each startup.
  • A finalized and full governance plan for up to 8 startups.
Qualifications
  • At least 7 years of experience as a Consultant, Trainer, or similar role, preferably with a startup or in a startup environment
  • Strong Governance and Compliance knowledge and skills
  • Practical governance implementation or relevant experience
  • Ability to effectively prepare and deliver training programs
  • Strong communications skills
  • Fluent in English
