Child Protection Case Worker

DESCRIPTION: The case worker will monitor, conduct case-by-case follow-ups, and facilitate the alternative care and reunification process of unaccompanied and separated children. He/she will take the lead in the identification of cases for children with protection concerns using the customized Case Management forms, including the Best Interest Assessment and Best Interest Determination forms. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly. 

 

Key responsibilities of the Project Officer:

  • Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and ensure actions do not put children at risk of further harm;
  • Conduct initial assessments for CP cases and prioritize them according to risk level.
  • Conduct home visits to assess the needs of the HH;
  • Develop case plans with the child and family that respond to needs identified in assessments and seek support of supervision when necessary;
  • Conduct field visits depending on the follow-up to be provided to each beneficiary (hospitals, schools…);
  • Ensure proper follow-up on all actions to be considered for individual cases till achieving the desired results;
  • Regularly monitor and support children and families through home visits, providing guidance, advice, and emotional support, community mediation, and referrals;
  • Work with sessions’ facilitators to identify and support vulnerable and at-risk children;
  • Regularly document cases, update databases, and ensure that data collection and storage practices respect data protection policy;
  • Refer traumatized cases to the psychologist of the project for counseling and assistance.
  • Prepare progress monthly reports on cases of beneficiaries and on activities implemented;
  • Liaise with lawyers for legal consultations, and refer beneficiaries to relevant service providers when needed;
  • Participate in training and attend meetings.

 

Requirements for position (Criteria):

  • Minimum of 3 years sectoral (child protection) experience in a similar position;
  • Excellent technical understanding of child protection and community-based approaches;
  • Excellent technical understanding of child protection (especially case management) and community-based approaches;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks;
  • Ability to lead a team to achieve results;
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and in a team;
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and under pressure;
  • Ability to operate in a difficult working environment;
  • Ability to follow the policies of DPNA.
