Trainer on "Sports Journalism"

 

BACKGROUND

“Chabibeh Sporting Club” is a sports and youth association established in 2002 and registered at the Lebanese Ministry of Youth and Sports (License Nb. 35 SH/R). The organization uses sport as a tool to positively integrate young people in their society, and to develop their competences to empower them physically, socially, educationally, culturally and professionally. In 2008, “Chabibeh Club” founded the “Chabibeh Youth” department which is working closely and in strong collaboration with the “Chabibeh Sports” department, offering a one of-a-kind experience and a safe, interactive and supportive environment where young people can practice their favorite activity, build friendships, and acquire lifetime skills through sports and local and international projects. Since 2009, “Chabibeh Club” partners with European and Mediterranean organizations to develop and implement youth projects offering young women and men the chance to take part in exchanges, volunteering projects and training workshops in Europe and in Lebanon. 

PURPOSE

Chabibeh Sporting Club is implementing the YES project under the WEAM program funded by the EU and implemented by OXFAM Italy in partnership with Right to Play, Shield and Alef. The YES project “Youth Empowerment through Sports, Arts and Education” aims to develop the employability and life skills of young people in the region of Chiah/Ain el Remmaneh through sports and arts, and to offer them a safe space where they can socialize, work together and develop life skills and employment competences.

Under the second project component “Youth Employability through Sports”, the project aims to enhance young people sports employability in the region of Chiah/Ain el Remmaneh through training workshops, coaching and job placements. One of the topics is sports journalism.

SCOPE OF WORK AND DELIVERABLES

This consultancy is aimed at providing a group of young people with training on sports journalism. The focus should be on basics in sports commentating, how to prepare for the game, tips and a practical session allowing youth to have a basic knowledge, and to practice through exercises. The training should also provide young people with a roadmap on how to develop and grow as a sports journalist and transform it into a career. The training is planned to be for two sessions, 90 minutes per session. The sessions are planned to be done between 28 July and 7 August 2025. The training needs to be delivered in Arabic.

Proposed topics include:

Introduction to Sports Journalism:

  • Overview of Sports Journalism (Definition and scope, Role and importance in sports media)
  • Fundamental Skills and Qualities of a Sports Journalist (Writing skills, Research and fact-checking and Interviewing techniques)
  • Understanding Sports Events and Terminology Types of sports reporting (live, features, analysis, Common sports terms)
  • Ethics and Professionalism (Objectivity and neutrality, Handling conflicts of interest)
  • Introduction to Sports Media Platforms (Print, digital, broadcast, social media)

Practical Aspects and Content Development:

  • Writing and Structuring Sports Articles (Headlines and leads, Body and conclusion, Style and tone tailored to sports audiences)
  • Interviewing Athletes and Coaches (Question formulation, Conducting professional interviews)
  • Social Media and Audience Engagement (Best practices for sports content on social media, Managing feedback and interactions)
  • Case Studies and Practical Exercises (Analyzing sample articles, Creating mini-projects or report summaries)

The workshops will take place at the premises of Chabibeh Sporting Club in Ain el Remmaneh.
